The trailer of filmmaker Rajesh Krishnan’s Crew has garnered a positive response. The idea of a comedy revolving around the lives of three airhostesses has generated anticipation. The chemistry between an unlikely cast of Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kriti Sanon has also been appreciated.

The advance booking for Crew recently commenced. The film has so far had a decent response. Till 11 am today, the comedy has sold 18,000 tickets across the three main multiplex chains of India – PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis – for its first day. The number is expected to go higher as the day progresses.

Along with Crew, the Hollywood film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the second film in the series, will also be released tomorrow all over the world. There is some high anticipation and excitement for the film directed by Adam Wingard. Till 11 am today, the movie has sold as many as 57,000 tickets for its opening day tomorrow in the aforementioned multiplex chains. This will ensure that the movie will be opening to a big number tomorrow.

One needs to note that these numbers are only in the three major multiplexes, and it doesn’t include the ticket sales in other multiplexes and single screen theatres from the country.

Both Madgaon Express as well as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar stayed over the Rs. 1 crore mark on Tuesday. This is the fifth day for both the new releases and since they are coming off an extended weekend, there could well have been a bigger drop when compared to Friday. Thankfully, that didn’t happen for either of the two films, what with their Tuesday numbers been quite close to Friday.

Let’s talk about Madgaon Express first. A whacky comedy, it has been doing well in pockets and while it deserves to be garnering much bigger numbers, it’s at least stable. On Friday it had collected Rs. 1.63 crores and now on Tuesday it stands at Rs. 1.46 crores, which is good if one looks from the drop perspective. Also, these numbers further ensure that till tomorrow, the film will stay over the Rs. 1 crore mark and all eyes would be on how does it sustain itself on Friday when Crew arrives. Currently, it stands at Rs. 11.34 crores.

On the other hand, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has reached Rs. 9.32 crores in five days and will cross Rs. 10 crores mark today. This one has seen an even lesser drop as Friday collections were Rs. 1.07 crores and now Tuesday stands at Rs. 1.10 crores. This is simply negligible and one just hopes that a stable run continues in days to come as well. There are many other films in the running already, notably Shaitaan to a larger extent and Yodha to a little. With Crew arriving this Friday, it would be interesting to see how it maintains its hold in the second week.

Though it was a partial holiday of Holi on Monday, it’s always a double-edged sword. While late afternoon and especially evening shows are quite good due to the holiday factor, there is a major loss due to theatres been closed in the morning shows and right till afternoon till about 2-3 pm. As a result, the holiday advantage is more or less gone, but then still to some extent, it turns out to be better than a regular day.

In case of Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, there was a bit of an edge that came from the fact that Holi fell on Monday, as a result of which it all played out like an extended weekend and then the major drop that comes on Monday wasn’t there as well. Hence, the collections stayed over the Rs. 2 crores mark for both the films with Madgaon Express bringing in Rs. 2.72 crores and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar collecting Rs. 2.15 crores.

The good part was that neither of the two films were rejected by the audience, something that has happened with so many mid-budget films like these in the last one year or so. They did get good reviews and word of mouth from certain quarters and that allowed them to first grow on Saturday and then consolidate on Sunday and Monday.

As a result, Kunal Kemmu debut directorial has fetched close to Rs. 10 crores in the first four days with Rs. 9.88 crores coming in. It did have a BOGO offer running for most part of its play and even for today the ticket prices have been reduced to just Rs. 150. That should help the film get further traction.

Ditto for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar which too marks the directorial debut of an actor, Randeep Hooda. He has made a polished product and deserves to find an audience outside Maharashtra as well. It has been trying to keep the audience footfalls intact despite no BOGO or other offer in the running and has collected Rs. 8.25 crores so far. Just for today though this offer has been introduced and that should take it past the 10 crores mark.

New releases of the week, Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, managed growth all over again on Sunday and that's a relief for all involved with them since it was also a bare minimum requirement. With an opening of Rs. 1.63 crores and Rs. 1.10 crores respectively, the reliance was entirely on the growth that takes place on Saturday and Sunday, and then the consolidation that happens on Monday due to partial holiday of Holi. Though neither of the two films is going berserk at the moment, at least there is day on day growth over the weekend.

Kunal Kemmu directed Madgaon Express has further moved up to Rs. 2.81 crores on Sunday and that too with no BOGO offer. This means the ticket buying footfalls are much bigger this time around and almost double of how it was on Friday. Had this been triple though, then it would have been an even better positioning for the film. Of course, to do something like that is really tough but then its growth like this which promises Monday to be greater than Friday, something which the film requires too. Currently, the film stands at Rs. 7.16 crores and stability today will help.

That's exactly what Swatantrya Veer Savarkar would be hoping for as well with Rs. 6.10 crores in its kitty so far. The film opened at Rs. 1.10 crores and now Sunday numbers are Rs. 2.75 crores which is more than double of Friday. Had this been tripled up, which means collections had gone past the Rs. 3 crores mark, then that would have resulted in an even better positioning. Still, there is a partial holiday today which means at the very least, the collections would be aiming to be better than Friday. Post that it would all boil down to hold from tomorrow on.

As was the case last weekend as well, Shaitaan saw huge growth all over again on Saturday. With this being a set film in theatres, there is ready audience waiting for it weekend after weekend, and that was on full display on Saturday as well when Rs. 5 crores* came in all over again. This is really good growth over Rs. 2.85 crores* that the film had collected on Friday and with Rs. 5 crores mark crossed so comfortably, it shows a lot about the credibility that the supernatural drama thriller has gained so far ever since its release.

The film is doing quite well everywhere, be it A, B or C centres, and single screens or multiplexes. The showcasing of the film has significantly come down when compared to its opening day due to release of half a dozen other new releases from Bollywood as well as Hollywood. Still, the footfalls are rather impressive, which is resulting in capacity occupancy at number of centres. Quite a few shows were going houseful (or almost houseful) on Saturday and today that should be the case all over again, especially in later afternoon and evening shows.

Shaitaan currently stands at Rs. 124.50 crores* and that’s a really good score for a film that has been made at a controlled budget. Yes, there is Ajay Devgn leading the show with R Madhavan in there in the title role. Still, Shaitaan was a quickie with a bungalow as the key shooting location, which means spends were limited. Against that, the kind of numbers which have come in just from theatrical business (India and overseas) is good enough for the recovery, and the additional moolah which has come from satellite, OTT, music etc. is an added bonus.

New releases Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar saw good growth in collections on Saturday. This is on expected lines as well since reports of the former, a comedy, were anyways good, whereas latter, a biopic, belongs to a genre which has its maximum audience on Saturday and Sunday. Both the films grew well over their Friday numbers and that was some sort of relief because now, at least, the stage has been set for further growth in numbers today.

Let's talk about Madgaon Express first. After opening at Rs. 1.63 crores on Friday when there was a BOGO offer in play, the film grew well to Rs. 2.72 crores on Saturday. There was BOGO offer yesterday as well, though with some conditions in place, which means the growth that has come in is further organic. This one is catering to the youth, which has picked the likes of Fukrey and Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchises over the years gone by, and that's the segment of audiences which is depended upon to take it forward as well. Currently, the film stands at Rs. 4.35 crores.

On the other hand, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar belongs to the intelligentsia which aspires to be enlightened about the history of our country. Primarily catering to the multiplex market at key urban centres, the film moved from Rs. 1.10 crores on Friday to Rs. 2.25 crores on Saturday, hence standing at Rs. 3.35 crores. A jump like this is really impressive, though the trending needs to continue like this. Ideally, if Rs. 3 crores come in today then that would be good, but for that it also needs to have far more spread out showcasing, both from screens as well as show timings perspective.

Shaitaan is now a definite superhit at the box office. If the first week was quite good and then the hold in the second week was wonderful as well, what’s heartening is that the third week has embarked on a very good start as well. This can well be seen from the fact that while Thursday collections were Rs. 2.66 crores, on Friday the numbers have further grown to Rs. 2.85 crores*.

This is truly fantastic because it isn’t as if there is no new release this week and hence Shaitaan is getting a free run. There is no partial holiday in & around either, and no BOGO offer was introduced for it too. As a matter of fact, it was Madgaon Express which released with a BOGO offer and then there was another release Swatantrya Veer Savarkar too. Moreover, Kung Fu Panda 4 is collecting reasonably well and Yodha is occupying a few screens and shows as well. Still, it’s Shaitaan which is getting the best collections of them all.

That’s the reason why the film has now collected Rs. 119.53 crores* after 15 days and at least Rs. 10 crores more will come in between today and tomorrow. Wait, there is more. It’s a partial holiday of Holi on Monday which means Sunday evening and night occupancy would be better than usual and then from Monday afternoon onwards, the footfalls will increase big all over again.

If the film manages to withstand competition from Crew in the coming week and then keeps its momentum going right till Bade Miyan Chote Miyan on Eid, then it has the potential to even emerge as a blockbuster.

There were two distinct films that releases this Friday - Madgaon Express and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. While the former is a quirky comedy, latter is a biopic. Both the films have an altogether different target audience base, though they are primarily catering to the multiplexes. In fact, both the films saw a restricted release for themselves, though former was relatively more widespread.

Let’s talk about Madgaon Express first. The film is an oddball comedy and if one thought that the trailer was crazy, then one has to check out the film to know where does it actually go. With Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary as the leading men, all of whom are popular faces on OTT, it was always going to be audience word of mouth as the deciding factor when it comes to theatrical response.

Moreover, the film is also the directorial debut of Kunal Kemmu, and hence it could have surprised either ways. Hence, the opening of the film is at par with Rs. 1.63 crores coming in. Yes, Rs. 2 crores would have had a good ring to it but that shortfall should be taken care of today and tomorrow once good jumps come in.

As for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, it has pleasantly surprised. Directorial debut of yet another actor, Randeep Hooda, it also features him in the central role. A polished product which goes into good details, something that doesn’t really happen for many a biopic, this one also managed to take a fair enough opening that was on the expected lines. Anything over Rs. 1 crore would have been some sort of start for the film and here it has managed to get Rs. 1.10 crores on a very small release. One now waits to see how the audience word of mouth turns out to be for the film because the collections would need to double up more, considering there is good budget spent here.

In the week gone by, over Rs. 60 crores came at the box office between Shaitaan and Yodha. While the former was in its second week, latter had its first week in theatres. Between the two, Shaitaan contributed with over Rs. 35 crores, hence turning out to be top performer of the week. On the other hand, Yodha scored over Rs. 25 crores and would now be aiming to consolidate further in the coming weeks.

Let’s talk about Shaitaan first. After collecting Rs. 81.60 crores in the first week, the film continued to consolidate quite well in the second week as well. The second weekend started well for the film, then that Saturday jump really propelled it further in a big way, and post that the double-digit score on Sunday was an icing on the cake. Rest of the weekdays stayed in that Rs. 2.50-3 crores range and that was good enough to take the film past the Rs. 115 crores mark and close at Rs. 117.50 crores*. The film should cross Rs. 140 crores in quick time and then its journey to gather next Rs. 10 crores in order to hit Rs. 150 crores milestone would be quite interesting.

On the other hand, Yodha has seen a fair first week at the box office. The film opened on expected lines and then did jump well on Saturday. The subsequent jump on Sunday could have been bigger and same holds true for Monday as well, which saw a little less than 50% drop when compared to Friday.

Thankfully, the film continued to stay stable from Tuesday onwards with not much of a fall which allowed it to go past the Rs. 25 crores mark. Now had this been the weekend score then the film would have found itself in a much more comfortable positioning. The milestone that it would be aiming for it is a lifetime of Rs. 40 crores but for that it would all boil down to how does it hold today (with a couple of new releases arriving as well) and then the jump it manages over the weekend so that it can build further over Rs. 26 crores* that it has collected so far.

On Tuesday, over Rs. 5 crores came between Shaitaan and Yodha at the box office. There is quite some capacity available, and both the films are doing their bit to keep theatres busy with some sort of footfalls coming in on a consistent note. There have been times in the last 12 months or so when theatres have experienced a completely barren look, especially during the weekdays. Thankfully that’s not happening this time around.

Let’s talk about Shaitaan first. The film has been enjoying a good time at the box office and this continued on Tuesday as well when Rs. 3 crores mark was crossed all over again. The film netted Rs. 3 crores* again and that’s hardly any fall when compared to Rs. 3.18 crores which had come on Monday. However, unless there is huge stability today and tomorrow, the collections will get into that Rs. 2.75-3 crores range now for the rest of the week. The Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer has now collected Rs. 112.19 crores* and will close the week around Rs. 118 crores mark.

On the other hand, Yodha had a stable Tuesday as the drop from Monday was rather negligible. The film had started the weekdays with Rs. 2.25 crores on Monday and now on Tuesday the drop is of just Rs. 3 lakhs with Rs. 2.22 crores coming in. This is nice because the film could have easily seen a bigger drop and settled around the Rs. 3 crores mark, but then it has managed more. All eyes are on stable Wednesday and Thursday now, and if they stay over Rs. 2 crores mark then that would be actually good, considering the first day numbers were Rs. 4.25 crores. Currently, the Sidharth Malhotra starrer stands at Rs. 21.98 crores.

Ajay Devgn's latest cinematic offering, Shaitaan, has emerged as a box office powerhouse, crossing the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark with a staggering collection of Rs. 109.19 crore. The film's remarkable success is a testament to its captivating storyline, powerful performances, and widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

The journey of Shaitaan at the box office has been nothing short of phenomenal, starting with a thunderous opening day collection of Rs. 15.21 crore. The film's gripping narrative and Ajay Devgn's magnetic presence drew audiences in droves, setting the stage for a blockbuster run.

As the days progressed, Shaitaan continued its triumphant march, accumulating a whopping Rs. 81.60 crore by the end of its first week. The film's strong word-of-mouth buzz, coupled with positive reviews, propelled its box office earnings to unprecedented heights. Day 11 marked a significant milestone for Shaitaan, as it surpassed expectations and soared past the Rs. 100 crore benchmark, reaching an impressive total of Rs. 109.19 crore. This remarkable achievement underscores the film's widespread appeal and solidifies Ajay Devgn's position as a bankable star at the box office.

Shaitaan has resonated with audiences across demographics, thanks to its gripping storyline, intense performances, and engaging screenplay. The film's success also highlights the audience's growing appetite for high-quality cinema that blends entertainment with substance.

Ajay Devgn's portrayal of a complex character in Shaitaan has garnered praise from critics and audiences alike, further contributing to the film's box office triumph. His ability to captivate viewers with his nuanced performance and on-screen presence has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in the film's success. As Shaitaan continues its remarkable box office journey, trade predictions state that the business of the film will continue to see growth over the coming days.

Shaitaan had yet another good day in theatres as Rs. 3 crores* more came in. The film is now collecting on expected lines because post-pandemic it has been seen that a set film drops less than 50% on Mondays and that’s what has been the case with Shaitaan as well for the first two Mondays. On Friday, the film had collected Rs. 5.12 crores and with this kind of hold coming in, the weekdays will now certainly bring around Rs. 11-12 crores more.

The film is a superhit now and currently stands at Rs. 109.01 crores*. It will now cross the Rs. 120 crores mark by the close of second week and then keep adding more in weeks to follow as well despite an inflow of new releases. In fact, there is going to be Ajay Devgn all the way in cinemas now because after Shaitaan, it’s his Maidaan that will arrive as well which means audiences would see a lot of him this season. This isn’t all as his Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is scheduled immediately after as well.

Meanwhile, Yodha collected Rs. 2.25 crores on Monday. On Friday, the Sidharth Malhotra starrer had collected Rs. 4.25 crores, so this is a drop for sure. One just hopes that the collections do stabilise from this point on and at least Rs. 2 crores come on a daily basis. That would allow the film to build over Rs. 19.76 crores that it has collected so far and then aim to add some more in weeks to come before Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan arrive on Eid.

As was always on the cards, Yodha saw further push in numbers on Sunday and ended up collecting Rs. 7.25 crores. This is good because it has happened with number of films in the recent past that Sunday growth has just not come, and the collections have largely remained stagnant when compared to Saturday. In case of Yodha though, there has been a day on day increase in numbers since release and that at least gives the film a chance to bring in some sort of numbers at the box office.

The Sidharth Malhotra starrer has now reached Rs. 17.51 crores and though a lot more is expected out of it, one now waits to see what happens from Monday onwards. The BOGO offer was announced for the weekend, and one waits to see if this happens during the weekdays as well. Such an offer has a cost to the makers so it cannot really be used as freely as it also has more of a strategic importance. Hence, what’s required is that footfalls continue to come in. The word of mouth is so positive that even with regular plans, Yodha continues to gain traction.

The other release of the week, Bastar, has turned out to be a no-show though. The collections have jumped when compared to Friday but then that itself was so low at Rs. 35 lakhs that even with Rs. 80 lakhs* been collected on Sunday, there is a really long distance that’s yet to be covered. The Adah Sharma starrer would need a miraculous hold from Monday onwards to survive in theatres.

Shaitaan is continuing its rock steady run at the box office. This has been the case with the film ever since its release and while the first weekend was as it is fantastic, the second weekend too had started on a solid note with first Rs. 5.12 crores coming on Friday and then big growth taking place on Saturday which has resulted in Rs. 9.12 crores more been added to the total.

This is really good as the momentum is on the side of the film and that’s reflecting in good stability during the weekdays gone by and now such kind of major push happening on Saturday despite the release of Bollywood’s Yodha and Hollywood’s Kung Fu Panda 4. None of the two films are pushovers and still Shaitaan has gone ahead and collected this kind of moolah which sets it so strongly for Sunday.

It would be touch and go for the film to hit that Rs. 10 crores mark again on Sunday. For something like this to happen, yet another wonderful growth would need to take place. That would be interesting because the Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer is not the only film running in theatres. Nonetheless, overall score of Rs. 95.20 crores* has already been reached which means the film will comfortably enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club today and then add a lot more.

A big success indeed!

On its opening day, Yodha has taken a start of Rs. 4.25 crores at the box office. This is a fair beginning for the film which has been mounted on a good scale and has also been aggressively promoted. That was needed as well since in the current times it’s increasing difficult to bring a film to the audiences unless it’s an event or holiday release. Hence, one has to give it to the makers that they kept pushing the film relentlessly during last one month so that at least some sort of a start could come in.

Now it’s all about the kind of momentum that builds from onwards. Given the fact that Sidharth Malhotra is leading the show as an action hero and Dharma Productions has backed the film, it does warrant higher numbers from here. Moreover, the reviews too have been decent to good at least, which is understandable for an action film like this. Also, word of mouth has been encouraging if one looks at the way the film continues to see increased footfalls from afternoon to evening and then night shows.

On the other hand, second release of the day was Adah Sharma starrer Bastar. The film comes from the same team which had made The Kerala Story last year (producer Vipul Shah, director Sudipto Sen). Seeing a limited theatrical release, the film has seen collections also quite limited at Rs. 40 lakhs*. Despite the genre, subject and release, one still expected at least 1 crore mark to be hit as that would have given it some sort of a starting point. However now one waits to see if collections double or triple between today and tomorrow as that would be the bare minimum expectations for Bastar to hang in there till end of week at least.

Shaitaan is a hit, and it could well emerge as a superhit at the box office. Given the kind of steady run that the film has enjoyed ever since its release and especially the hold that it has demonstrated during the weekdays, it’s quite apparent that it will go on to enjoy a good time in theatres for next few weeks to come as well.

This can well be seen from the fact that while Monday was Rs. 7.81 crores, Thursday has seen Rs. 5.82 crores coming in and that’s stable indeed. That further gives confidence that even on the second Friday, the film surpasses the Rs. 5 crores mark and if that indeed turns out to be the case then the second weekend of around Rs. 20 crores is a possibility.

That would also allow the Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer to achieve the Rs. 100 crores milestone on Sunday itself since it has collected Rs. 81.60 crores so far. To get to that Rs. 100 crores mark in 10 days flat would be a wonderful achievement indeed for the film and one waits for the makers to pop the champagne once that happens indeed.

After being in theatres for six days, Shaitaan has achieved one major milestone, that of crossing Rs. 75 crores mark at the box office. The film opened quite well at Rs. 15.21 crores on the partial holiday of Maha Shivratri and ever since then has been quite stable. While Monday too held well at Rs. 7.81 crores, the collections hardly dropped till Wednesday when Rs. 6.27 crores came in.

The film has sustained rather well despite Ramzan being on and today too it would hang in there well with at least Rs. 5.75 crores on the cards. For a film like this which has its base in black magic, the only factor that could bring in such kind of big numbers was a notable star cast, and presence of Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan has made this happen. Otherwise, such films are typically low cost affairs with unknown/not so notable star cast and the best case scenario is to reach till Rs. 50 crores lifetime.

That number was actually surpassed in the opening weekend itself and now the film has reached Rs. 75.78 crores. Today, it will cross Rs. 80 crores mark and then over the weekend it will enter Rs. 100 Crores Club. The film will easily cross Rs. 125 crores in its lifetime and it would be the journey from there till Rs. 140 crores, which would be closely observed.

Shaitaan has scored quite well on Monday with Rs. 7.81 crores coming in. This is also the best Monday for a film in 2024 as Fighter had brought in Rs. 7 crores on its first Monday. Now Shaitaan has scored much better despite a much lesser first day when compared to Fighter, which further goes on to show how stable the film has been. Yes, Article 370 too had held quite well on Monday but that was playing on lower levels. Here, Shaitaan had a double digit Friday of Rs. 15.21 crores and from there - which was a partial holiday - to now Monday which is a regular day, the film has held up quite well.

The film has been lapped up well by family audiences as well despite its supernatural theme and the father-daughter angle with a ‘shaitaan’ in the mix of things had generated quite some sentiments. While the promo was set as a thrilling ride for the audience, it’s the emotional angle which has worked rather well and that’s something bringing in audiences in multiplexes as well as single screens, and that too at big as well as small centres.

When something like that happens then a film is on for a long haul and director Vikas Behl can be pleased with the fact that there would be a lot of build-up that his Shaitaan will enjoy from here. The film had already collected Rs. 62.94 crores and while Rs. 80 crores would be crossed this week itself and a century would be scored within the second weekend, what needs to be seen is where does it land up eventually. As of now, a lifetime in the vicinity of Rs. 150 crores is a possibility which means Shaitaan is already a bit which is moving towards being a super hit at the box office.

Filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s Shaitaan opened at an unexpected number of Rs. 15.21 crores on Friday. Despite the fact that it was a Maha Shivratri holiday, the collections were excellent considering the film’s genre and scale. The momentum was then kept alive throughout the weekend as the film scored Rs. 19.18 crores and Rs. 20.74 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This ensured a positive weekend of Rs. 55.13 crores.

After such weekend numbers, it was important for the film to continue the winning box office journey on the first weekday, which is Monday. Shaitaan has indeed passed the Monday test as it has been estimated to have earned in the range of Rs. 7.5 to 8 crores today.

This has taken the overall total of the movie to around Rs. 63 crores, which is a positive score as of now. It will be interesting to see if the movie continues the momentum in the rest of the weekdays.

Shaitaan is the official Hindi remake of the Gujarati supernatural thriller Vash. It stars Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Jyothika and Janki Bodiwala. The movie is produced under the banners of Ajay Devgn Ffilms, Jio Studios and Panorama Studios.

It's a 50 for Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan starrer Shaitaan. The film started on a very good note, gained further momentum on Saturday and then was unstoppable on Sunday as well. As a result, over Rs. 20 crores came on the third day, what with the collections reaching Rs. 20.74 crores. One wouldn't have expected the film to scale this kind of height in its opening weekend but that has happened indeed for this supernatural psychological thriller, which is the first ever in this genre to hit such numbers.

With this day-on-day momentum being in place for the film, it's also further clear that it's not done yet and there is a more that will come in during the weekdays as well, before finding good jumps all over again in the second weekend. The film is bound to have a good Monday and even if Rs. 6-7 crores come in, that would be rather strong. So far, the film has already collected Rs. 55.13 crores and though it has missed being amongst Top-5 weekend openers of Ajay Devgn, it's just a spot below at Number 6.

The film has in fact surpassed the first three-day score of Baadshaho [Rs. 43.30 crores] and Bol Bachchan [Rs. 43.10 crores] with effortless ease and is just below Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior [Rs. 61.93 crores], which is at No. 5. A notch above that are films as contrasting as Total Dhamaal [Rs. 62.40 crores] and Drishyam 2 [Rs. 64.14 crores]. As for the biggest of the lot, Golmaal Again [Rs. 87.60 crores] and Singham Returns [Rs. 78 crores] are far ahead in the race. What Shaitaan would be looking at now are some solid weekdays that would help it come closer to the Rs. 100 crores mark in real quick time.

Hit, moving to superhit.

The Ajay Devgn-led Shaitaan has scored excellent numbers in its opening weekend as after opening at Rs. 15.23 crore on Friday, the film jumped by 28 percent to collect Rs. 19.18 crore on Saturday, followed by another 15-17 percent jump to clock Rs. 21.75 to 22.25 crore on Sunday. This takes the 3-day opening weekend collection to Rs. 56 crore as per estimates.

Shaitaan is doing well across the board - be it single screens or multiplexes - and has already emerged as a hit film with its trend in the opening weekend. The film opened on Friday and the business was boosted due to the Maha Shiv Ratri, but the spikes on non-festive Saturday and Sunday indicate a long leg for the film at the box office.

The audience's word of mouth is positive and Shaitaan will soon enter the Rs. 100 crore club at the box office. A stronghold on Monday is more or less confirmed and we need to see if the film has enough legs to clock double digits on day four. Shaitaan will be the third big grosser for Ajay Devgn in the post-pandemic world after Sooryavanshi, and Drishyam 2.

His next film, Maidaan, also looks promising but the big blockbuster will come in the 2nd half of 2024 with the Rohit Shetty-directed Singham Again.

With the promo doing the trick and good interest been generated amongst the audiences, Shaitaan managed to open quite well at the box office on Friday. However, beyond the first day, it was always going to be the content doing all the talking and that has happened indeed for the film, what with the second day turning out to be even better. As a matter of fact, even the first day itself was a testimony to good word of mouth coming into play because in absence of that, Friday could well have closed in at Rs. 11-12 crores range. However, Rs. 15.21 crores came in.

That's the reason why the growth, which has come on the second day, has its price worth in gold because as it is the film had reached a very good high on the first day itself. Now even after accounting for the fact that Friday was also witness to partial holiday of Mahashivratri, Saturday could well have been just a crore or two ahead of Friday. However, what has actually transpired is even better, what with Saturday numbers zooming all the way up to Rs. 19.18 crores, which is really impressive.

As a result, the Rs. 30 crores mark has been very comfortably surpassed by Shaitaan in a matter of just couple of days and the big Sunday is still awaited. The Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer currently stands at Rs. 34.39 crores and now the Vikas Behl directed film would be aiming for a serious dash towards the Rs. 55 crores mark. It would be tough but then the numbers that will eventually come in would pretty much be in a touch and go spot. Bollywood has a good hit in hand now and what needs to be seen is whether Shaitaan will eventually emerge as a superhit.

Back in 2019 when Article 15 had released, it had created quite a stir by not just winning tremendous critical acclaim but also emerging a big hit at the box office. The Anubhav Sinha-Ayushmann Khurranna film was a niche affair that went on to grow well on the basis of audience word of mouth and eventually closed its theatrical run at Rs. 65.45 crores.

Circa 2024 and another film which picks its base from The Constitution of India, Article 370, has turned out to be an even bigger commercial success. Currently in its third weekend, the film has grown from strength to strength with every passing day. As a result, its current score reads a very solid Rs. 65.71 crores*. While in the process it has gone past the entire lifetime score of Article 15, the film is all set to earn at least Rs. 10 crores more during its run in theatres.

This was evidenced on Saturday as well when the collections zoomed further past the Rs. 2 crores mark rather comfortably. This was yet another good jump over Rs. 1.55 crores that it had collected a day before. With the big Sunday yet to come, the collections of Article 370 are only going to soar further with close to Rs. 3 crores expected to be added to its total. The Yami Gautam starrer is now quite comfortably placed for a lifetime score of over Rs. 75 crores, and one just waits to see how much more distance post that will it cover during its run in theatres.

Meanwhile, with first Article 15 and now Article 370 turning out to be critical as well as commercial successes, one can well expect 'Article' franchise to take off well in Bollywood with more 'Article' films set to be announced.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

The Ajay Devgn starrer Shaitaan is showing a jump in collections on 2nd day as early estimates indicate collections in the range of Rs. 18 to.19 crores. With this, the two-day collections of Shaitaan stands at Rs. 33.50 crore.

Shaitaan has shown a jump in collections on Saturday despite coming off a holiday of Maha Shivratri. The word of mouth has come into play for this horror film and there will be another jump in collections on Sunday. The first weekend of Shaitaan will easily be in the zone of Rs. 53 crores which is a great result for a horror film made on limited costs.

Shaitaan is directed by Vikas Bahl and the jump in collection on Saturday has confirmed the HIT status for the film as also an entry in the 100 crore club. If the film sustains at a strong number on Monday, there is a shot at upgrading the verdict towards super hit and blockbuster.

The film is doing well across the belt - be it mass or metros - in fact the mass numbers are better than a much bigger film like Fighter, which had bigger costs with bigger star cast.

The promo has done the trick. In the times when there is so much dependent on how the promo of a film has been received, and post that what's the kind of chatter that builds around it, Shaitaan had everything set for it the moment its promo was out. It was known there and then that the Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer would be a good enough entertainer that will take at least a good start at the box office. With a tightly coupled three-week long promotion and marketing planned around the film, just about everything fell in place for the Vikas Behl film.

Still, considering the kind of genre that the film belongs to i.e. supernatural/psychological thriller, one wondered whether the film would indeed break the boundaries when it came to going beyond that Rs. 10-12 crores mark. After all, if not spearheaded by a star, such kind of genre opens in Rs. 4-5 crores range at best, and that too has actually become quite extinct. Hence, with Ajay Devgn leading the show with Madhavan in a solid role, one expected the numbers to go double (and a bit more) due to Mahashivratri partial holiday. Beyond that was not really considered.

That's the reason why with the film actually defying all expectations and actually opening at Rs. 15.21 crores, it has resulted in a joyous mood indeed for the industry. This is certainly not the kind of opening that anyone was expecting but this has happened indeed with even family audiences coming in very good numbers, especially in the evening and night shows. Really, it's the same kind of audiences that had lent Drishyam 2 a very good start of Rs. 15.38 crores post pandemic and even accounting for the partial holiday yesterday, the numbers are indeed good.

The Ajay Devgn-led Shaitaan has taken a very good start at the box office in India as early estimates suggest an opening day in the range of Rs. 14.25 to 15.25 crores. The horror thriller has surpassed all expectations and is proving to be a surprise package as far as the theatrical run is concerned. The top 3 national chains are headed to collect Rs. 7.25 crores, contributing around 50 percent to the total business.

The film has done well universally - be it the metros or the mass belts - and the early audience reports are also supremely positive. The best business of Shaitaan has come from Mumbai followed by mass centres like CI, CP, and Rajasthan. Shaitaan will be looking at an opening weekend of Rs. 55 crores, and the audience reports from the cinema hall suggest the film will have a long run at the box office.

Shaitaan was looking like a weak film however, the tides changed when the makers launched the theatrical trailer two weeks before the release. Mass Maharaja, Ajay Devgn is driving the business as it has been a while seen a leading film hero featured in a film of this genre.

Shaitaan is not really an adult film and the treatment of the subject makes it palatable for the family audience too and this gives a shot for the film to have better legs in the long run. The start is very good, boosted by the Maha Shivratri holiday in mass belts, and its now all on the weekend growth

It seems like Shaitaan starring Ajay Devgn is generating quite a buzz, especially with its extensive overseas release. Directed by Vikas Bahl and featuring R Madhavan in a negative role, the film is anticipated to make a significant impact in the international market. With screenings planned in over 60 countries across 950+ locations and 1200 screens, it's poised to be Ajay Devgn's biggest overseas release to date.

The wide release strategy, coupled with the excitement surrounding the film and its promotional efforts, is expected to drive impressive opening day collections. Early previews in the U.S.A and G.C.C territories have already received positive feedback, further fuelling anticipation for its international debut.

Presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, Shaitaan is described as a supernatural-thriller. Funasia Films and Marudhar Entertainment Network are handling distribution in the overseas market. Fans can catch the film when it releases on Friday, March 8.

The month of March is all set to embark on a good start, what with Shaitaan poised to take a positive start at the box office. Horror/supernatural genre was once considered to be a safe genre with a decent to good opening always guaranteed to come in. However, over the years, hardly any films are made in this space and hence with Shaitaan coming in, it’s a welcome relief.

The fact that Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan are spearheading the show makes the film even bigger because typically there are mid-level stars or newcomers on such movies. However, their presence has lent added credibility to the film and made it accessible to a much larger audience base. All of that is for nothing though if the promo doesn’t work but in case of Shaitaan, this is a positive since audience awareness is there and that should ensure that the footfalls are at least decent enough to begin with.

This one is primarily a word-of-mouth affair so even Rs. 7-8 crores opening would have been a nice enough start. However, advance booking has indicated some sort of momentum already building around the film which means a Rs. 10 crores start is pretty much there for the taking and there is possibility of Rs. 12 crores mark been reached as well. Given the mid-budget set up of the Vikas Bahl film, a start in Rs. 10-12 crores will ensure that the stage is set for it to further grow well over the weekend on the basis of strong word-of-mouth.

from Box Office Special Features - Bollywood Hungama https://ift.tt/7j5VaCn
via IFTTT

The Vikas Bahl directed Shaitaan starring Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan has fetched a good response in advance booking. As on early morning on Thursday, the horror film has sold approx. 35,000 tickets across the Top 3 national multiplex chains – PVR, Inox & Cinepolis. The film is looking to rake in overall pre-sales of 70,000 tickets in the national multiplex chains.

The advance booking of Shaitaan will end up being 2 times higher than Devgn's last release, Bholaa, which co-incidentally again released on Maha Shivratri. Shaitaan will be looking to open at Rs. 10.50 crores on Friday, which is a good start for a horror film made on a limited budget.

If the film carries positive report, Shaitaan will be looking to grow over the weekend and pack a punch. The trailer of Shaitaan was solid and the impact of the theatrical trailer is visible in pre-sales. Interestingly, the advance bookings are good in non national chains and single screens too, and this has got a lot to do with the Ajay Devgn factor.

Shaitaan is all set to release on March 9, 2024. Stay tuned for Bollywood Hungama's review of this horror thriller.

Amongst all the films in the running, Article 370 has emerged as the top performing of them all. Despite new releases as well as some holdover films, it’s the geopolitical action drama that’s finding the most footfalls for 11 days in a row now. The film has pretty much come on its own and for the rest of the week too, it would be bringing in the most footfalls on a daily basis.

This was seen not just over the weekend gone by when the collections were quite good but now at the start of the weekdays as well, what with Rs. 2 crores* been collected at the box office. For a film of this sort of scale, size, setting and genre, such collections are good enough to keep coming on the weekdays of Week 2. In fact, as long as collections stay over Rs. 1.50 crores mark right through the weekdays, it would be good enough as the film has already recovered its cost and has been making profits with its current total standing at Rs. 56.44 crores*.

Meanwhile, one waits to see how much distance Laapataa Ladies covers in days to come. Theatrically, its business is not in line with the merits and one expected Monday to see some sort of hold. That was going to be always challenging, especially since the opening weekend hadn’t seen the kind of jumps that would have got it into a comfortable spot as had happened with 12th Fail. Hence, with Monday coming to Rs. 0.35 crores and the overall collections moving to Rs. 4.10 crores, all eyes would be on the best that it can gather in its lifetime run.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

On its release back in 2016, Sonam Kapoor starrer Neerja had collected Rs. 4.70 crores on its opening day. It grew well over the weekend to register Rs. 22.01 crores, had a strong first week that closed at Rs. 35.32 crores, and then more than doubled that number in its lifetime by closing at Rs. 75.65 crores. Now, the Yami Gautam starrer Article 370, which is also a female led geopolitical action drama, is following a somewhat better trajectory. After collecting Rs. 6.12 crores on its first day, registering a weekend of Rs. 25.45 crores and then enjoying a first week score of Rs. 38.82 crores, it is very likely heading well towards a lifetime score of Rs. 75 crores.

This has been assured by yet another super solid day that it scored on Sunday when Rs. 7.25 crores came in. While Neerja had a lesser second Sunday with a score of Rs. 6.65 crores, Article 370 has gone up and will now be staying over the Rs. 2 crores mark on a daily basis. Once that happens then a Rs. 75 crores lifetime will be very much possible. Currently, the film stands at Rs. 54.44 crores.

Meanwhile, Laapataa Ladies had a weekend of Rs. 4.12 crores. The film had started with Rs. 1.02 crores and then saw some growth in collections on Saturday and then Sunday. Ideally, the numbers should have kept doubling on a day-by-day basis but while that hasn't happened, one now waits to see if today the numbers turn out to be greater than Friday. If that turns out to be the case, then there may be some sort of run that the Kiran Rao directed film may have.

The characters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming courtesan-drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was unveiled by the makers recently. The series stars Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal and Aditi Rao Hydari.

At the poster unveiling event, Sonakshi spoke about her experience of working with Manisha. “The cliche answer would be I loved working with her,” said Sonakshi, adding that she learnt a lot by just looking at the way the veteran actor conducted herself. “It was a pleasure being in one frame with her and I hope I can do it again really soon,” she added.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is set in pre-independent India against the backdrop of the freedom movement and is an epic saga of love, power, betrayal, struggle and, ultimately, freedom. The series marks the debut of Bhansali on OTT. It will stream soon on Netflix.

Strong hold over the weekdays has allowed Article 370 to enjoy a good Week One at the box office. The film stayed over Rs. 3 crores mark right through with collections holding quite well from Rs. 3.60 crores on Monday to Rs. 3.07 crores on Thursday. This is really impressive because stability like this promises a good second week as well.

By the look of things, the film should earn in the vicinity of Rs. 3 crores today as well since there is just no competition at least as yet. Laapataa Ladies has released along with half a dozen other releases but that too would start coming on its own during the rest of the weekend only. Till then, it would be Article 370 that will keep bringing in audiences and there would be good push that it will see tomorrow and day after in particular.

The film has done well enough to reach Rs. 38.82 crores so far, which is a good number. That said, it hasn’t quite gone ahead and hit the roof just like The Kashmir Files or The Kerala Story had done on their release. These two films had seen exponential hike in numbers during the opening weekend itself and then got into an altogether different trajectory during the weekdays. On the contrary, Article 370 hasn’t quite seen that kind of trend but behaved more like an appreciated film that sees a regular organic trending.

A motion poster of the upcoming film, Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 was released by the makers on Thursday. The poster gives a glimpse into the world of the film which tackles relationships in the modern era. The film is directed by Dibakar Banerjee.

The poster is filled with social media icons all over that lead to the image of lips. There is a figure of a woman lying in between as the background music gives an overall edgy feeling. Sharing the poster, the makers wrote, “Today is the leap day of the leap year. You can jump to conclusions! #LoveSexAurDhokha2 in cinemas on 19th April.”

Love Sex aur Dhokha was released back in 2010 and starred Rajkumar Rao, Anshuman Jha and Nushrratt Bharuccha. It featured three different but related stories of an honour killing, an MMS scandal and a sting operation. The film received positive reviews after its release.

LSD 2 is presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms, and Cult Movies. It is produced by Ektaa R Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor and will be released in theatres on April 19.
