Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Box Office: Survives steep competition from Bollywood's The Kerala Story on Day 1

It's quite rare but then well, it has happened indeed. A big Hollywood film has survived competition from a Bollywood film, which has been made at perhaps 5% of its budget, and has still ended up collecting more than that at least in the home country. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has released this Friday and while the Marvel film is big in all aspects, it has just about managed to come close to the collection of its Bollywood counterpart The Kerala Story.

While the Adah Sharma led ensemble affair has brought in Rs. 8.03 crores at the box office, the Chris Pratt led superhero film finds itself at Rs. 7 crores*. While the film has in fact done well from standalone numbers perspective, the fact that it has still been below a much smaller and absolutely unknown Hindi film is a testimony to the fact that one can just not truly predict with confidence that what will eventually work at the box office.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has everything that warrants a big screen viewing and is in fact playing at all big ticket properties like IMAX and 4DX. Moreover, it has got a major release as well and that has facilitated a start of Rs. 7 crores* which is quite close to the entire weekend numbers of Vol. 2 which stood at Rs. 7.60 crores. While that film had a lifetime number of Rs. 13.80 crores, it would be crossed by Vol. 3 today itself. However, it will remain much below The Kerala Story in its final lifetime. Strange, but true.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
