Box Office: The Kerala Story crosses Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi lifetime, IB 71 is scoring better than Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2
The records have started tumbling. The Adah Sharma starrer The Kerala Story has now gone past the lifetime collections of two top female centric films, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Raazi, in mere 10 days. The Alia Bhatt starrers had accumulated Rs. 129.10 crores and Rs. 124 crores respectively and currently The Kerala Story stands at Rs. 136 crores*. What makes this all the more special is that the feat has been accomplished in mere 10 days and there is so much steam still left for the film.
All of this has been made possible by the exceptional run that the Vipul Shah production has been enjoying at the box office, what with Sunday numbers coming to a huge Rs. 23 crores*. In fact, this is also the highest scoring day for the film as the previous best was Rs. 16.43 crores, which had been collected last Sunday. It is all the more remarkable that Rs. 20 crores mark has been hit by the film, something that had happened in the case of The Kashmir Files. However, apart from this accomplishment, the Sudipto Sen film has achieved a lot more too.
The other Hindi film in the running is IB 71, which has seen a weekend score of Rs. 7.43 crores*. On Sunday, the film saw some more growth coming its way with Rs. 3.25 crores* been collected at the box office. Last year, it was Bachchhan Paandey, which came a week after The Kashmir Files and was impacted, and this week it's IB 71, which is facing competition from The Kerala Story. The good thing is that the film is scoring a little better than Vidyut Jammwal's last theatrical release Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2, which had netted Rs. 6.30 crores in its opening weekend. One now looks forward to better sustenance during the weekdays, so that it can go on to have a bigger lifetime haul eventually.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
