Sam Bahadur director Meghna Gulzar shares BTS footage from film

Sam Bahadur director Meghna Gulzar took to Twitter on Friday to share a behind-the-scenes video of how Vicky Kaushal stepped into the shoes of late Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw for the film.

The video shows Vicky depicting different looks of Sam. He also talks about his first meeting with Meghna and how was the process of making the character. “We met in 2019 and spent five to six hours every day, doing reading sessions and workshops,” says Vicky. “Meghna is very particular about everything, from every badge to every button on the uniform.”

Meghna also praised Vicky’s dedication to the role. “He has given every molecule of his to the character,” she says. Sanya Malhotra, who plays Sam’s wife Silloo in the film was also all praises for him. “When I saw him for the first time, I was completely blown away. I couldn’t see Vicky anywhere.” We also see Vicky training for long jump and boxing in the video.

The film marks Meghna's second collaboration with Vicky after Raazi (2018) which starred Alia Bhatt in the lead. Sam Manekshaw was the first soldier in the Indian Army to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. He is credited for India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.

Bhavani Iyer has penned the film’s script along with Meghna's father, the celebrated writer and poet Gulzar and Shantanu Srivastava. Sam Bahadur is slated to release on December 1.
