Ranbir Kapoor speaks on Hindi film industry’s “lack of audience understanding”; praises South cinema for “pushing boundaries”, watch
Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor recently shared his views on the current state of the Hindi film industry. He expressed his concern about the lack of understanding of the audience and the industry's inclination towards Western culture, remakes, and the limited opportunities given to new directors and actors. Kapoor emphasised the importance of new minds and fresh stories to bring about a change in the industry.
It all happened during an e-meet with fans. While speaking of Hindi cinema, Kapoor asserted, “I think what's lacking in the Hindi film industry is really knowing your audience. I think somewhere in the last 10-20 years, the Hindi film industry has been quite confused and influenced by Western culture, by Western films, by remakes. There are very few actors, actors and actresses, who are not giving new people an opportunity, like new directors, and new minds. And I think it's very important actually to give them (the opportunity) because that's when the change happens. That's when new minds come in and new stories are being told. So I hope that happens.”
Additionally, the Sanju actor praised the Malayalam film industry for producing engaging stories beyond the typical masala cinema and shared his thoughts on the current trend of solid commercial blockbusters in the South Indian film industry. His insightful comments shed light on the challenges and potential opportunities for growth in the Hindi film industry.
The Wake Up Sid actor said, “I think they are in a very interesting place with films like Pushpa, RRR, and KGF. Every industry is giving such solid, commercial blockbusters and pushing each other to better each other. That’s something which is something very important, which has happened, where all the industries and especially the south industries have really come out on. And I think that will really motivate and inspire each other. So it's a good time to be in the movies right now.”
