Disco Dancer – The Musical: Music personalities extend warm wishes to the musical show based on Mithun Chakraborty’s iconic film

Mithun Chakraborty starrer iconic musical hit Disco Dancer (1982) is all set to be staged as a musical play from today onwards in Mumbai. Titled Disco Dancer – The Musical, the show is directed and choreographed by Rajeev Goswami, produced by Saregama and presented by Suniel Shetty. The show has already been staged a number of times in London to a positive response.

Music composer duo Salim-Sulaiman have recreated the late Bappi Lahiri’s music from the film. The show will see Arjun Tanwar essay the character played by Chakraborty in the 1982 movie.

Ahead of the show’s India premiere, a number of celebrities have extended their good wishes to the team of Disco Dancer – The Musical. Vishal Dadlani, Salim Merchant, Himesh Reshammiya, Sanam Puri, Krushna Abhishek and Haarsh Limbachiya have given video messages to encourage people to watch the show. Similarly, Alka Yagnik, Shaan and Sophie Choudhary have also sent good wishes to the team of the musical.

Bappi Lahiri’s daughter Rema Lahiri recently witnessed the rehearsals for Disco Dancer – The Musical. After listening to Salim-Sulaiman’s recreation of Bappi Lahiri’s music from the film, she told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “They have done very well. They have not disturbed the songs. They have done it with all respects, for which I am very happy. They have recreated it by keeping Dada’s melody and rhythm intact. Hats off!”

Rema also recalled how Lahiri brought the disco genre in Bollywood. “When he was in New York in 1979, he went to a discotheque; there were no clubs back then. He saw everyone dancing with lights and to the discs. He got inspired to know what exactly this is. It was his first time in America. He thought of bringing this innovative type of music in India. And the story of Disco Dancer was also perfect to try this type of music,” she said.

Disco Dancer – The Musical will be staged from April 14 to 23 at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai.
