Saiyaara is an unstoppable force at the box office in India, as the Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer is looking to collect around Rs. 34 crores on Sunday. With this, the three-day total of Mohit Suri's directorial stands at Rs. 82 crores, and the film has a good chance of hitting a century in 4 days flat.

Saiyaara has got the mass audience on board in big numbers and the same is reflecting in the box office collections too. The multiplex chains have collected around Rs. 40 crores in 3 days, contributing 48 percent to the total business.

Mohit Suri has established Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda as stars, with Saiyaara as the film has become an anthem for the youth and masses. The business is at a different level altogether and won’t stop anytime soon.

The film faced showcasing issues on Friday & Saturday, leading to an increase in shows for Sunday. A love story doing well is a great sign for the film industry, as the magic of romance continues to be intact

Records are piling up for Saiyaara already. The film is now following a trajectory better than the biggest film till date in romantic musical genre, Kabir Singh. The Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer had opened at Rs. 20.21 crores and then went on to enjoy a weekend of Rs. 70.83 crores. While the Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda film had edged past the opening day with Rs. 22 crores (revised) on its first day, it’s now set to emerge as the biggest ever in this space as the weekend will comfortably surpass Rs. 70.83 crores, what with Rs. 48.25 crores already in its kitty.

That’s because while Kabir Singh had the second day of Rs. 22.71 crores, Saiyaara has done much better with a Rs. 26.25 crores haul. It has already managed to take a lead and even if it now manages to match the third of Kabir Singh (Rs. 27.91 crores), it will go on to have a much bigger weekend. Yes, Sandeep Reddy Vanga film was also A certified which limited its reach; however, it had the star presence of Shahid Kapoor and then each of its songs was a chartbuster already. Here, Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara had rank newcomers and then barring a couple of songs, rest have started becoming popular after the film’s release.

All eyes are now on now does the film further grow today. Advance booking is already solid for the film and the real fun would be to hit the Rs. 30 crores mark. It would be tough though since there are many other films playing, especially from Hollywood, which have a lot of screens and shows dedicated to them. As a result, it’s the capacity issue which Saiyaara is battling currently.

History has been created. Saiyaara has defied all box office predictions and taken an excellent start. It was predicted in this column that the film would take an opening of Rs. 15-18 crores. In fact, even that was an afterthought because till a week before, it seemed like Rs. 6-8 crores start was on the anvil and even that would have been quite good. Then came Rs. 10-12 crores when the advance booking opened. By the time it started gathering place, Rs. 15-18 crores seemed on the cards. However, what has happened is totally unthinkable, totally unbelievable, as some of the biggest releases of 2025 have been challenged by this romantic musical.

The film has started at Rs. 21.25 crores and that puts all pre-release calculations to rest. North-South-West-East, single screens or multiplexes, urban centres or interiors, the film has opened well wherever it has found a screen for itself. In fact, it has been released at just around 2000 screens and that reflects the kind of capacity that the film has been enjoying from the very first show.

Ever since the inception of the Rs. 100 Crore Club, never before has a film with newcomers taken even a double digit start as Student Of The Year (Rs. 7.48 crores), Heropanti (Rs. 6.85 crores) and Hero (Rs. 6.63 crores) were good but below Rs. 10 crores mark. However his Ahaan Pandya and Ameer Padda film has done almost triple the business of the biggest so far, which goes on to show how brand Mohit Suri, melodious music and backing by YRF has made this one such a biggie. While Rs. 100 Crore Club would be reached by the film in the first week itself, even Rs. 200 crores would be a cakewalk for Saiyaara.

After scoring a good half century in Week One by bringing in Rs. 56.48 crores, Jurassic World: Rebirth did well in second week as well by dropping just around 55% and in the process collecting Rs. 25.61 crores. These are very good overall numbers for the film which had mixed reports from the audiences. Still, Brand Jurassic is such that it invariably attracts audiences regardless of the reviews and the reports, and that’s what has brought it to Rs. 82.09 crores in two weeks.

The film did come down to Rs. 1.37 crore on its second Thursday and now with the arrival of Saiyaara, the screens and shows have been further divided. Yes, there are still some major premium slots still available for it and that will ensure that there would be a good rise in collections all over again in the third weekend. Also, for family audiences, this one stays on to be a good bet. However, there are multiple holdover releases as well and then next week arrives Son Of Sardaar 2, which means screens and shows will further reduce.

This is why one waits to see whether the film ultimately ends up entering the Rs. 100 Crore Club. By the look of things, it should stretch and reach there eventually. It won’t be a rapid run towards that milestone but before it’s off the theatres, Rs. 100 crores mark will be reached. Eventually it would be a very good overall result for the film as after Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, it would be yet another Hollywood affair to cross the century mark.

After taking a good opening of Rs. 7.23 crores, Superman slowed down during the weekdays as Day 7 came to mere Rs. 1.82 crores. While Hollywood movies are traditionally weekend affairs, one still expected collections to hover around Rs. 2.50-3 crores mark at least. However, when Monday itself went below the Rs. 2.50 crores mark and stood at Rs. 2.36 crores, it was quite apparent that the first week would turn out to be just about average.

This is what happened indeed as after the first weekend didn’t really get a double digit score with Saturday being agonisingly short by just a lakh at Rs. 9.99 crores and Sunday actually dipping a bit at Rs. 9.39 crores, the weekdays stayed in Rs. 2 crores zone with Thursday going further low at Rs. 1.82 crores. On its second Friday, the film has anyways faced immense challenge due to the arrival of Saiyaara, as a result of which the collections have taken a hit.

While the first week numbers were Rs. 35.58 crores, so far, the film has netted Rs. 37 crores*. The good part is that there would be a rise in collections seen today and since the film is anyways playing at lower levels now, the quantum of jump will look bigger. There continues to be competition from Hollywood’s own Jurassic World: Rebirth as well as F1 - The Movie which means audiences are spilt for choices. Superman will go past Rs. 50 crores lifetime and if only the content would have entertained better too then after an opening of Rs. 7.23 crores, even a lifetime of around Rs. 65-75 crores could have been achieved.

The Yash Raj Films produced Saiyaara starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has taken a bumper start at the box office in India. According to early estimates, the Mohit Suri directorial has collected in the range of Rs. 20 crores to Rs. 22 crores on the first day, surpassing all industry projections by a humongous margin.

The film has performed well across the board, from urban centers to mass belts, from multiplexes to single screens, and has achieved a start that can be termed the best of 2025 in real value.

The national chains are looking to collect in the range of Rs. 11 crores, contributing 52 percent to the total business. The film has taken the best start for a newcomer since Kaho Naa..Pyaar Hai and Aditya Chopra has successfully launched two potential stars of the Indian Film Industry.

Saiyaara has defied all pre-written rules of cinema and has changed the game of marketing for the film fraternity. The film is sure to enter the Rs. 100 crore club within a week and pose strong competition to releases in the time to come.

Mohit Suri’s romantic flick Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has emerged as a huge surprise even before its release. The advance booking commenced on Monday in some cinemas without any official announcement and yet, it took a flying start. In this Bollywood Hungama special feature, we’ll focus on the ticket sales in the MovieMax chain of multiplexes.

As of Wednesday, July 16 at 11:15 am, Saiyaara has sold 2,059 tickets across its 19 cinemas and 77 screens. The number is impressive since Saiyaara is still two days away from release. As it's usually seen, the ticket sales increase considerably on Wednesday and Thursday. Hence, it remains to be seen if it's able to cross the 5000 or 6000 mark.

At present, Saiyaara is on the 28th slot when it comes to top advance booking grossers at MovieMax. Some of the films ahead of it are Jurassic World: Rebirth (2087 tickets), Badass Ravi Kumar (2400 tickets; had the Rs. 99 offer), Fighter (2850 tickets), Sikandar (3700 tickets), Kalki2898 AD (5100 tickets), Dunki (6300 tickets), Brahmastra (6500 tickets), Singham Again (7000 tickets), Jawan (17,500 tickets), Animal (18,600 tickets), Stree 2 (21,870 tickets), Chhaava (21,900 tickets) and Pushpa 2 – The Rule (22,500 tickets).

Meanwhile, Saiyaara has beaten prominent films like Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (1,400 tickets), Sitaare Zameen Par (1262 tickets), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1175 tickets), Kesari Chapter 2 (1146 tickets), etc. All these films opened at Rs. 10 crores plus. Hence, it won't be wrong to predict that Saiyaara can also open in double digits.

Looking at the momentum, it is expected to go past the milestone set by Fighter and Sikandar. Can it beat films like Dunki, Brahmastra, Singham Again etc, is the question.

On the other hand, as of Wednesday, 11:00 am, Saiyaara has sold a whopping 45,000 tickets in the national chains – 33,500 tickets in PVR Inox and 11,500 tickets in Cinepolis.

It was a good weekend for Superman as Rs. 25 crores milestone was comfortably crossed. The weekend is better than F1: The Movie, which has emerged as a ‘lambi race ka ghoda’ and lesser than Jurassic World: Rebirth, which has emerged as a quick-fire success. What matters though is that this is yet another good success from Hollywood in quick succession and for the exhibition circle this is great news as it keeps cinema-visiting habit intact amongst the audiences.

As a brand, Superman has been popular in the comic book scenario but as a movie, it didn’t really have any theatrical audience in India for the longest time. Yes, he is a superhero but that genre is totally dominated by Marvel movies and hence the success story that Superman has emerged as a cinematic experience in India is a first.

The film did start well with Rs. 7.24 crores coming on the first day and from this point on there was good growth on Saturday while Sunday stabilised. It wasn’t a meteoric rise though since an action film typically finds a good audience on the first day itself and then there is regular growth in days to come. The upwards trend was good enough to ensure Rs. 26.30 crores being collected by the close of first weekend. Yet again, it was the IMAX properties that brought in substantial moolah, what with majority of shows going houseful.

Metro… In Dino is seeing good stability in its second weekend as well. After consistent collections on day-to-day basis during the first week, all eyes were on whether the film will find an audience in the second weekend. After all, there is huge competition from Hollywood in the form of Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth and F1: The Movie. Also, from Bollywood there is the new release Maalik and to some extent, holdover release Sitaare Zameen Par too.

Well, the Anurag Basu film has found resonance with its target audience, the ones at the key metros, and here at premium multiplexes there are consistent footfalls now. Word of mouth amongst those who have a taste for such niche urban affairs is decent to good, and that has been fine enough to ensure that the film stays in circulation.

This was seen on Saturday as well when Rs. 4.50 crores* more came in. For a film which is in its second weekend, these are good enough numbers because first Saturday stood at Rs. 6.81 crores, so the drop is much lesser than 50%. With the overall collections standing at Rs. 35.50 crores*, the ensemble affair is well on track to cross Rs. 50 crores milestone rather comfortably.

Rajkummar Rao's foray into action with Maalik has met with a lukewarm response at the box office in India. According to early estimates, Maalik has collected in the range of Rs. 3.25 crores to Rs. 3.75 crores, in sync with the pre-release predictions. The film has opened better than what the advance bookings suggested, as there was a fear of starting around the Rs. 2.50 crore mark too, but the walk-ups were better due to mass-appealing content.

The urban markets are not up to the mark, whereas there is some genuine movement in the single screens. The start is however, poor as the costs are on the higher side and the film needed to show a better start to have a chance. There won't be much of a growth as the action genre is usually frontloaded.

Maalik is likely to collect Rs. 15 crores over the opening weekend.

It was a decent Sunday for Metro… In Dino as Rs. 7.79 crores came in. Ideally, these should have been the first day collections for the film because if that would have been the case then Saturday and Sunday would have at least got into a double digit score. Howeve,r since that didn’t turn out to be the case and the growth was also that regular weekend one, and not phenomenal, the film hasn’t managed to touch Rs. 10 crores so far.

With that not happening, not just the weekend has turned out to be low but now the pressure would be on weekdays to over perform. The trending of such kind of multiplex oriented films in the past has shown that if weekend growth is not monumental then on Monday there is further drop over Friday seen. Hence, all associated with Metro… In Dino would be hoping for a miracle to happen and the trends to reverse, so that Monday collections come close to Friday numbers of Rs. 4.05 crores.

The film has collected Rs. 18.65 crores which is pretty much on the same lines as last week’s Maa, which had brought in 18.43 crores over its first weekend. Now Metro.. In Dino is a much bigger film with a far larger ensemble cast and the credentials involved. Yes, it has faced a lot of competition from Sitaare Zameen Par, Jurassic World Rebirth and F1 The Movie because in absence of that it would certainly have done at least 50% better. However, the fact remains that this is where things are and now one waits to see how this Anurag Basu film does in weekdays to come.

The Anurag Basu directed Metro In Dino has seen an upward swing in business in the opening weekend, as the word of mouth in the urban markets started to come into play for the romantic saga. After opening at Rs. 4 crore on Friday, Metro In Dino jumped at Rs. 6.80 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 7.50 crore on Sunday. With this, the three-day total stands at Rs. 18 crore.

The film, as expected, is doing the best business in the urban areas, and the national multiplexes have contributed about 65 percent to the total business. The film needs to show bare minimal drop on Monday, and then hold at similar levels through the week, leading to the second weekend. The weekend trend is encouraging, but the real test for Metro In Dino begins on the weekdays.

The film has a strong ensemble cast, and a situational music album which is drawing the audience to the big screen. If the film holds well in week one, this will end up being a success story in the long run.

Metro… In Dino saw good growth on Saturday as collections jumped to Rs. 6.81 crores. On Friday, Rs. 4.05 crores had come in, so definitely there is good improvement. However, the film needed to follow a trajectory like that of Sitaare Zameen Par since first and foremost it had opened less than half of it and secondly, for it to cover a good distance towards even a decent lifetime score, growth of 100% or more which was required.

Nonetheless, the fact remains that the film has jumped, which shows that there is appreciation in certain pockets at least. That was expected too since the film has decent credentials and reports, and hence at least in premium multiplexes of major cities there are bound to be footfalls. However, the momentum needs to continue building and while today the requirement is for further jump on the same lines as Saturday, Monday would need to be more or at least equal to that of Friday.

So far, the Anurag Basu directed film has reached Rs. 10.86 crores and the weekend would need to be at least Rs. 20 crores. Last week, Maa had weekend collections of Rs. 18.43 crores after seeing a better opening than Metro… In Dino and then could muster Rs. 27.10 crores after Week One. Metro… In Dino should do better than that since it’s a core multiplex film and here the holds are expected to be better. However, the film would need to play on for a much longer time from second week onwards as well to register a fair lifetime score of at least Rs. 50 crores.

Note: All collections as per various box office sources

The Anurag Basu directed Metro In Dino has seen a 60 percent jump in collections on Saturday, as early estimates are suggesting second day business in the range of Rs. 6.40 crore to Rs. 6.60 crore. With this, the two day total of Metro In Dino stands at Rs. 10.50 crore, and the film will score an opening weekend of Rs. 17 crore.

The film has shown good jump in the multiplexes, and it was always expected as the film caters to the elite audience in urban areas. The film is a rather expensive one, which means that a lot of work is yet to be done. A strong hold on Monday, and a healthy trend for at-least 3 weeks is needed to take it past the finish line.

Metro In Dino has appreciation in the urban centres, and not so much in the mass belts, as director Basu has made a film strictly for the high ticket price paying audience in the posh areas of India.

The national multiplexes have contributed about 65 percent to the business in the first two days.

from Box Office Special Features - Bollywood Hungama https://ift.tt/8KfL0wS

As was predicted in this column a couple of days back, Metro… In Dino was expected to open in Rs. 3-4 crores range. Not that it was the kind of opening that augured well with the budget and credentials of the film. Still, post pandemic things have changed a lot, especially for niche urban multiplex kind of films like these which rely entirely on word of mouth. There is a lot of content like this which has been unleashed on OTT in the last 5 years, which means the content needs to be super solid for the film to grow from Saturday onwards.

That’s what all associated with the film would be looking forward to as well after the first day collections of Rs. 4.05 crores. The good part is that at least it hasn’t gone below the expectations that one had from it and now the stage is open for it to perform from this point on. It could well have had a field day as well but then there are Jurassic World Rebirth, F1 The Movie and Sitaare Zameen Par playing as well, all of which are catering to the same segment of multiplex audiences in key Indian cities. This means the film has task cut out for it.

Reviews as well as audience word of mouth for the film ranges from being decent to good, which means it has the potential to go up. However, the jump would need to be really big and at the very least it needs to go up by 75%, if not 100%. That would be a challenge indeed but then that’s something which is the need of the hour as well for this ensemble affair One waits to see how if that happens indeed.

As Bollywood crosses the halfway mark in 2025, the overseas box office offers a compelling narrative of how Indian cinema continues to find resonance far beyond domestic borders. Leading the charge is Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava, which has asserted its dominance with a powerful overseas haul, while Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, has turned heads with its strong global showing despite mixed reviews at home. What emerges from the Top 10 list is not just star power, but a shifting landscape where content, nostalgia, and mass appeal are being received differently across international markets.

Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava leads the overseas box office with a formidable USD 10.25 million, cementing its place not just as a domestic giant but as a worldwide performer. The film’s themes of legacy, sacrifice, and cultural pride have clearly struck a chord with the Indian diaspora, particularly in North America, the Middle East, and the UK. Compared to the rest of the films on the list, Chhaava stands almost 62% ahead of the second-ranked film, underlining the global appetite for sweeping period dramas when executed with scale and heart.

Salman Khan’s Sikandar takes the second spot with USD 6.316 million, a performance that underscores Salman’s enduring popularity overseas, even when the film's domestic collection wasn't at its peak. What worked in its favour was the wide release strategy across Gulf countries and Canada, where Salman continues to enjoy a massive fan base. While not a blockbuster by his own towering standards, Sikandar still delivered one of the year’s most bankable international runs.

Housefull 5, the latest chapter in the hit comedy franchise, claims the third position with USD 5.45 million. The film’s overseas numbers indicate that its slapstick humour and ensemble appeal continue to travel well, especially in the UK and Australia where the franchise has always enjoyed loyal followings. While the film couldn’t match the franchise’s previous instalment in domestic numbers, it outpaced several action films overseas, proving that big-screen comedy still has its place when nostalgia meets accessibility.

Close behind is Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which grossed USD 5.15 million. The film, rooted in emotional storytelling and family values, saw a strong run in North America and New Zealand. Though it narrowly missed surpassing Housefull 5, it performed exceptionally well for a non-franchise film and showcased Aamir’s global draw with audiences that favour substance over spectacle.

Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar’s sequel to the 2019 war drama, pulled in USD 3.90 million overseas. Though it didn’t scale the highs of Kesari, which had performed better in overseas markets, the sequel still proved Akshay’s patriotic narratives have consistent pull abroad, particularly in regions with large Sikh populations like Canada and the UK.

Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 follows with USD 3.40 million. Unlike Raid, which had a relatively modest overseas run, the sequel benefited from Devgn’s growing credibility in intense, realistic dramas. While not a top-tier overseas performer, it found its audience, especially in UAE and Singapore.

Top 6 highest overseas grossers of 2025 at a glance:

Chhaava - USD 10.25 mil.

Sikandar - USD 6.316 mil.

Housefull 5 - USD 5.45 mil.

Sitaare Zameen Par - USD 5.15 mil.

Kesari Chapter 2 - USD 3.90 mil.

Raid 2 - USD 3.40 mil.

The Anurag Basu-directed Metro… In Dino has taken a decent start at the box office in India. Riding on a solid ensemble cast of Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Saswata Chatterjee, the film has collected Rs. 4 crores on its first day, in par the pre-release expectations.

The film has done the best business in the urban markets, with national chains contributing 60 percent to the total. The early reports for Metro In Dino are good in the target audience, and the hope is on the film to show big jumps on Saturday and Sunday based on support of the cinema going audiences in urban markets.

A weekend of Rs. 20 crores would put the film in a good spot, and the business needs to see a jump of at-least 75 percent on Saturday for that to happen.

Six months into 2025, the global box office has witnessed a mixed bag of expectations met and surprises sprung, particularly when it comes to Hollywood releases in India. With franchise fatigue looming over several big-budget offerings, it’s Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning that has emerged as the clear frontrunner, while the unexpected success of Final Destination: Bloodlines has taken many by surprise. From spy thrillers and horror revivals to animated nostalgia and Marvel’s wavering phase, the first half of the year has painted a compelling, if slightly muted, picture of the theatrical landscape.

Leading the pack is Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which grossed Rs. 110.21 crore at the Indian box office. While that figure is lower than its predecessor Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which earned Rs. 120.42 crore in 2023, the decline of 8.5% is relatively moderate. Given that the latest instalment was marketed as the franchise's swansong and featured some of the most elaborate stunt sequences yet, expectations were sky-high. Yet, despite positive word of mouth and Cruise's ever reliable fanbase, the numbers suggest a slight fatigue setting in, possibly due to the long wait between parts and a saturated action market.

If Mission Impossible was the expected hit, Final Destination: Bloodlines was the dark horse. The horror franchise, revived after more than a decade, shocked trade analysts by pulling in Rs. 62.12 crore in India, outperforming every one of its predecessors. In fact, compared to Final Destination 5 which earned approximately Rs. 28 crore during its 2011 run in India, Bloodlines has recorded a 121.8% jump in earnings. The film’s fresh take on the death-cheating formula, combined with smart marketing and a wave of nostalgia for early 2000s horror, clearly struck a chord with Gen Z and millennial audiences.

At a distant third, How To Train Your Dragon returned to screens with a live action instalment that banked heavily on goodwill from its beloved animated predecessors. However, with Rs. 20.57 crore at the Indian box office, the latest outing fell far short of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which had earned Rs. 45.30 crore in 2019. That’s a 54.6% drop in collections, indicating that while the franchise retains emotional resonance, the theatrical appetite for animation seems to have cooled post-pandemic in the Indian market.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, once the undisputed champion of the Indian box office, finds itself on shakier ground this year. Thunderbolts, despite its ensemble cast and edgy premise, brought in only Rs. 19 crore — a figure that pales in comparison to earlier non-Avengers outings like Black Widow (Rs. 39.25 crore). That marks a 51.6% decline, suggesting that Marvel’s lesser-known team-ups may no longer hold the sway they once did without marquee characters or connected storytelling hooks.

Similarly, Captain America: Brave New World, headlined by Anthony Mackie in his first solo outing as the new Cap, earned Rs. 18.45 crore — making it the fifth highest Hollywood grosser of the year in India so far. In comparison, Captain America: Civil War had earned ₹59.05 crore in 2016, marking a stark 68.7% drop. Despite Marvel's attempt to transition to a new era of heroes, it’s evident that audiences are yet to fully embrace the post-Endgame universe, especially when the stakes or star appeal aren’t as compelling.

In summary, while Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning has managed to assert dominance despite a dip, it is Final Destination: Bloodlines that has arguably stolen the spotlight with its unexpected box office resurgence. The rest of the top five reflects a shift in audience tastes and the challenges franchises face in sustaining interest beyond a certain point. As the industry looks to the next wave of releases the second half of 2025 will determine whether Hollywood can regain its blockbuster stride in Indian cinemas.

Top 5 Highest Grossers of 2025 so far:

Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning - Rs. 110.21 cr.

Final Destination Bloodlines- Rs. 62.12 cr.

How To Train Your Dragon - Rs. 20.57 cr.

Thunderbolts* - Rs. 19 cr.

Captain America: Brave New World - Rs. 18.45 cr.

Back in 2013, Aamir Khan — known not only for his stellar performances but also his sharp industry insights — introduced a new way of measuring a film’s true success at the box office. While promoting Dhoom 3, the actor explained that a film’s weekend-to-lifetime multiple offered a more accurate reflection of its content strength than just its opening numbers. According to Aamir: “If a film does Rs. 40 crore over the weekend and ends at Rs. 202 crore, that means the multiple is around 5. That shows people are returning to theatres. But if a film does Rs. 100 crore in three days and wraps up at Rs. 200 crore, then it hasn't sustained.”

In simpler terms, the higher the Weekend to Lifetime Multiple, the better the film’s content, word-of-mouth, and repeat value. As the first half of 2025 wraps up, we look at six films from the ₹100 crore club that stand out according to this metric — and offer a new lens on what truly worked at the box office.

Chhaava: 4.94 Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava emerges as the undisputed content king of the year. Despite opening to a strong weekend, the film’s final box office tally soared nearly 5 times its opening weekend numbers. This impressive multiple speaks volumes about the historical drama’s organic growth, fuelled by audience appreciation, positive reviews, and repeat viewership. Chhaava wasn’t just an event film; it became a word-of-mouth phenomenon, gaining traction week-on-week and solidifying its place among modern box office classics.

Kesari Chapter 2: 3.76 Akshay Kumar’s sequel to his 2019 hit Kesari quietly made a mark with solid legs at the box office. While the opening weekend was modest compared to his previous war films, Kesari Chapter 2 multiplied its business effectively. The film’s patriotic theme and appeal to Sikh audiences globally likely contributed to its extended run, especially in regions like Canada and the UK.

Bhool Chuk Maaf: 2.58 This mid-budget relationship drama may not have made explosive headlines with its weekend collection, but with a respectable 2.58 multiple, it proved to be a strong word-of-mouth performer. The film quietly stayed in the conversation due to its emotional depth and relatability, with viewers trickling in through the weeks. It may not have had blockbuster status, but according to Aamir’s metric, it was a film that resonated.

Raid 2: 2.41 Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, a sequel to the hit 2018 original, had a robust opening thanks to its genre and returning fanbase. However, the multiple of 2.41 suggests a relatively front-loaded performance. While the film did decent business, it didn’t quite generate the level of repeat viewing that would have pushed its multiple higher. Still, the numbers indicate that Raid 2 held its own, especially among fans of intense, realistic dramas.

Sitaare Zameen Par: 2.26 Aamir Khan’s own release this year finds itself at the lower end of his own measuring stick. While Sitaare Zameen Par garnered attention for its emotional core and thoughtful storytelling, its multiple of 2.26 indicates that the film struggled to convert initial interest into sustained footfalls. This could be attributed to competition, a non-festive release window, or perhaps the high expectations attached to the brand of Taare Zameen Par. Still, the film managed a decent total, even if it didn’t achieve the longevity one might expect from an Aamir Khan project.

By applying Aamir Khan’s weekend-to-lifetime multiple, 2025 offers a clearer picture of which films truly connected with audiences beyond just their hype and star power. As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see which upcoming titles can join this list of cinematic slow burners.

List of Successful movies of 2025 according to Aamir Khan’s formula

Chhaava - 4.94

Kesari - Chapter 2 - 3.76

Bhool Chuk Maaf - 2.58

Raid 2 - 2.41

Sitaare Zameen Par - 2.14

Sitaare Zameen Par is continuing its consistent run at theatres. After bringing online Rs. 3.75 crores on both Monday and Tuesday, the film did see a drop on Wednesday. However, it was still stable enough as around Rs. 3 crores* did come in. That’s fine because the trending will ensure that Thursday has a chance to stay over Rs. 2 crores mark despite new releases arriving.

In fact, there is a lot of challenge that the Aamir Khan starrer is facing from core multiplex movies. Last week it was F1 and this week it’s going to be Metro… In A Dino (which would be straight up competition as it’s exactly for the same set of audiences) and Jurassic World Rebirth (which is set to be the highest collecting film this weekend). Hence, the first challenge would be to actually retain its screens and shows, especially at premium multiplexes of major cities as this is where maximum moolah is coming for it as well.

Currently standing at Rs. 132.78 crores*, this RS Prasanna directed film will now go past the lifetime score of Aamir Khan’s last Rs. 100 Crore Club film Thugs of Hindostan (Rs. 151.19 crores) in the coming week. That movie was a straight up commercial film though and had actually taken a record start for a Bollywood film back in time, only to fold up rather quickly too. On the other hand, it has been an opposite trajectory for mid-budgeted Sitaare Zameen Par which has grown entirely on the basis of word of mouth, hence emerging as a hit.

The flurry of releases has started and finally after long, there would be weekly theatrical arrivals. Otherwise, the first half of the year has been rather chequered with some intermittent weeks going without any new releases, and no holdovers either, due to which theatres had to resort to re-releases. However, not anymore, as there are multiple films already playing in theatres currently at a good count of shows (Sitaare Zameen Par, Maa, F1) and now Metro… In Dino arriving as well.

The film has a good recall value at least in urban India because Life… In A Metro was a good multiplex success back in 2007. The second instalment, which can be termed as a part of a franchise in the making, is now arriving 18 years later and that’s a long gap. Also, the Anurag Basu film was announced some back and is now finally hitting the screens. That said, the ensemble cast is good and that ensures that the poster value is neat. Moreover, the trailer promises a good, sophisticated entertainer for the multiplex audiences in the major metros.

This also means that the film will primarily have a start at such centres, and the interiors may join the fun once word of mouth starts emerging from the big multiplexes. From an opening standpoint, this one is again “jump over the weekend” kind of a film and it won’t be surprising if Saturday almost doubles up over Friday, just as was the case with Sitaare Zameen Par last year. However, the opening day would be humble as Rs. 3-4 crores is on the cards. Compared to Life… In A Metro, that would still be a major improvement as that film (which was made at a very modest budget) had an entire weekend of Rs. 3.52 crores after taking a start of Rs. 87 lakhs.

After bringing in Rs. 3.75 crores on Monday, Sitaare Zameen Par had practically the same collections on Blockbuster Tuesday as Rs. 3.75 crores came in. With tickets available at cheaper price, the footfalls were actually up.

The Aamir Khan starrer has now collected Rs. 129.78 crores and will comfortably cross Rs. 135 crores by the time the second week is through. Rs. 150 crores milestone would be achieved by the close of third weekend and then Rs. 175 crores milestone would be there to be celebrated in quick time. As for Rs. 200 Crore Club, it would be a very tough road ahead since there is a flurry of releases in weeks to come which means screens and shows will start getting reduced in a major way as well.

The film is a very good success and for a core content based comedy drama, this one has brought respite to theatre business. Of course, it’s the presence of Aamir Khan that has made it happen and whether it’s him or any other superstar featuring in such an affair, the costs are always going to be very high. The real fun would be if a mid-budget film with a regular star is put together in this zone and if that too is accepted while heartedly by the audiences, then one can truly say that the genre has been revived for theatrical viewing.

As the curtains draw on the first half of 2025, the Hindi film industry has seen a dynamic mix of star power, patriotic fervour, big-budget spectacle, and emotional storytelling dominate the box office. With five films crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark globally, it's clear that audiences continue to embrace theatrical experiences when the content resonates. Topping the list is the Vicky Kaushal-led Chhaava, which has not only emerged as the highest grosser of the year so far but also set a new benchmark for historical dramas.

Chhaava, a historical epic based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has raked in an astounding Rs. 600.10 crore, making it the undisputed king of the box office this year. The film marks a defining moment in Vicky Kaushal’s career, catapulting him to the forefront of box office might. What makes Chhaava's performance even more staggering is its domination over the rest of the list — earning over 236% more than the second highest grosser, Raid 2. The film has significantly outperformed Vicky’s previous mainstream releases, reaffirming his growing mass appeal and versatility as a performer.

Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 holds strong In second place is Raid 2, headlined by Ajay Devgn reprising his role as the fearless income tax officer Amay Patnaik. The sequel to the 2018 hit has collected Rs. 178.08 crore, reflecting a strong audience base for thrillers grounded in real events. Compared to its predecessor, which earned Rs. 142.81 crore, Raid 2 has seen a 24.6% increase in collections — a notable feat given the film’s modest budget and minimal reliance on visual spectacle. Devgn's restrained yet impactful performance once again struck the right chord with viewers.

Franchise Power boosts Housefull 5 Coming in third is the multi-starrer Housefull 5, which earned Rs. 159.09 crore. While the numbers are impressive, the film has witnessed a 4.4% dip from Housefull 4, which grossed Rs. 166.84 crore back in 2019. Despite the return of Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh, along with new additions like Abhishek Bachchan, the fifth instalment didn't quite match the previous film’s comic insanity and festive draw. Nonetheless, it remains the top comedy of the year and reinforces the enduring popularity of the franchise model in Bollywood.

Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force shows consistency Following closely is Sky Force, which brought together patriotic zeal and high-octane aerial action. Led by Akshay Kumar in a commanding performance, the film managed to fly high with Rs. 131.44 crore. Compared to his last military-action-drama Mission Raniganj which earned around Rs. 70 crore globally, Sky Force delivered a 87.7% jump, signalling audience preference for large-scale, VFX-driven storytelling. The film’s visual scale and rousing nationalism were its biggest draws, even if it trailed behind Chhaava and Raid 2 in overall impact.

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par shines with emotion Rounding off the top five is Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s return to a more emotional, family-centric narrative after the ambitious but polarising Laal Singh Chaddha. Earning Rs. 122.28 crore so far, the film has brought back the magic of Aamir’s earlier classics. While it hasn’t matched the monumental success of Taare Zameen Par (Rs. 137.65 crore), it has still held its ground well, especially considering it was released during a crowded summer window.

As we step into the second half of 2025, all eyes are on upcoming releases like War 2, Thama, Son of Sardaar 2, Jolly LLB 3, De De Pyaar De 2, Alpha and Shakti Shalini to shake up the charts. But for now, Vicky Kaushal stands tall as the year’s biggest success story, while films rooted in history, patriotism, and familiar franchises continue to dominate India’s ever-evolving box office narrative.

Top 5 Highest Grossers of 2025 so far at the India box office Chhaava - Rs. 600.10 cr.

Raid 2 - Rs. 178.08 cr.

Housefull 5 - Rs. 159.09 cr.

Sky Force - Rs. 131.44 cr.

Sitaare Zameen Par - Rs. 122.28 cr.

As 2025 hits its halfway mark, the worldwide box office has offered a striking mix of spectacle, sentiment, and surprises. Leading the charge by a landslide is Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, a historical epic that has not only set benchmarks in India but has also captivated global audiences to emerge as the undisputed frontrunner of the year. Following it are Raid 2 and Housefull 5, both very different in tone but equally determined in their box office conquests.

Chhaava has firmly established itself as the box office giant of 2025 so far, with a staggering Rs. 797.34 crore worldwide collection. Its domestic dominance was expected, given its scale and subject, but what’s truly remarkable is its equally strong overseas response, which has contributed a significant chunk to its total. The film’s international gross of over USD 10 million highlights how a deeply rooted Indian story, when told with conviction and cinematic grandeur, can resonate across cultures.

The second position belongs to Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, which earned Rs. 243.06 crore globally. While its performance is no match for Chhaava, it has comfortably outshone most other titles this year. Compared to the original Raid, the sequel has shown both narrative evolution and commercial growth, with its grounded storytelling translating well even in international markets like UAE and Singapore, where Devgn’s action dramas have traditionally done well.

Just behind it is Housefull 5, which collected Rs. 236.15 crore worldwide. While the comedy caper didn’t witness the franchise's best opening in India, its brand value helped it maintain steady earnings across territories. In the UK and Australia, where the Housefull series has enjoyed loyal fans, the film performed above expectations. It also proved that in a year where intense dramas dominated, there’s still room — and appetite — for over-the-top, ensemble-driven comedies.

Salman Khan’s Sikandar comes in at number four with Rs. 176.18 crore. While its domestic run was steady but unspectacular by Salman’s standards, its overseas figures gave it a healthy boost. The Gulf and Canada were key markets, reinforcing the actor’s enduring appeal among international audiences even when the material doesn’t always land universally.

Fifth on the chart is Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which raked in Rs. 190.16 crore globally. Though quieter in tone and not as bombastic in scale, the film made its mark with strong word-of-mouth and family-friendly themes. Its international earnings were particularly heartening, as it found a place among diaspora audiences in North America and Australia, markets that continue to respond to Aamir’s brand of emotionally resonant cinema.

Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force is close behind at Rs. 168.88 crore. While not his highest-grossing project, the film marked a rebound from a series of mid-range hits, with its aerial combat scenes and patriotic undertone connecting with both Indian and global audiences. The film saw decent traction in the UAE and UK, although its overseas pull didn’t quite match Kesari Chapter 2, his other patriotic offering this year.

Kesari Chapter 2 brought in Rs. 144.35 crore globally, relying heavily on the goodwill of its predecessor and a strong performance in countries with significant Sikh populations. Though the film didn’t quite scale the heights of the original Kesari, it nonetheless marked a solid entry into the year’s global top ten.

The real surprise of the year, however, has been Jaat, the Sunny Deol action-drama that exploded into the Top 10 with Rs. 119.24 crore. With a massive push from Canada and the UK, the film punched above its weight and underlined once again that Sunny Deol’s cinema with cultural depth and genre energy can break into global markets with the right strategy.

Ninth place goes to Bhool Chuk Maaf, a mid-budget relationship drama that managed Rs. 90.78 crore. Though not a major commercial juggernaut, its placement in the Top 10 reflects a changing audience appetite for realistic, character-driven stories — both at home and abroad. Rounding out the list is Deva, which collected Rs. 51.73 crore globally. While its earnings may not seem monumental, the regional film carved out an impressive international presence through strong critical acclaim, festival buzz, and well-placed international screens.

In a year that has celebrated big spectacles and personal stories alike, the worldwide box office of 2025 so far tells a clear tale — star power still matters, but audiences are now increasingly embracing diversity in storytelling and language. Whether it’s a rooted historical like Chhaava, a diaspora-friendly family drama like Sitaare Zameen Par, or a breakout like Jaat, and Bhool Chuk Maaf Bollywood continues to find new ways to travel far and wide.

Top 10 highest worldwide grossers of 2025 Chhaava - Rs. 797.34 cr. Raid 2 - Rs. 243.06 cr. Housefull 5 - Rs. 236.15 cr. Sikandar - Rs. 176.18 cr. Sitaare Zameen Par - Rs. 190.16 cr. Sky Force - Rs. 168.88 cr. Kesari Chapter 2 - Rs. 144.35 cr. Jaat - Rs. 119.24 cr. Bhool Chuk Maaf - Rs. 90.78 cr. Deva - Rs. 51.73 cr.

Maa had a decent hold on Monday as Rs. 2.50 crores* came in. On Friday, the film had collected Rs. 4.93 crores and while it grew decently on Saturday (Rs. 6.26 crores), expectedly the jump wasn’t much on Sunday (Rs. 7.24 crores). Still, overall numbers came across as more than decent with Rs. 18.53 crores being accumulated. Hence, for the weekdays to carry on a similar momentum, ideally Monday needed to be around Rs. 3 crores.

However, the actual numbers which have been registered at the box office are a little lesser. They are still fair enough though but now the weekday numbers would at maximum stretch to Rs. 10 crores. Still, a lifetime of around Rs. 40 crores is there for the taking. That could possibly happen now as well but then there can’t be any further drops from today till Thursday.

Currently, the Kajol starrer stands at Rs. 21.03 crores* and while Rs. 27-28 crores mark will be crossed in Week One, anything over and above that would be an added bonus and help it get closer to the Rs. 40 crores mark. Going by the credentials, this Vishal Furia directed film has in it to hit a half century. However, there is a lot of competition around it in the form of Sitaare Zameen Par and F1: The Movie due to which it’s collecting the third best numbers.

It’s continuing to be a double digit outing for Sitaare Zameen Par. While the film had already over performed on Saturday by achieving this feat, the good run is continuing well into Sunday as well with not just Rs. 10 crores+ coming in but a lot more than that being accumulated. The film is, in fact, doing almost the same kind of business as the combined collections of Maa and F1 The Movie and that pretty much tells the tale.

The RS Prasanna directed film netted Rs. 14.60 crores on Sunday and that’s really good for the second weekend. The film is playing at limited screens but the show placement is strategic and that’s allowing the footfalls to be concentrated at certain properties in certain time slots. That also helps in community viewing because watching a film in a full house is an altogether different experience and any genre is best experienced when seen with a large number of people.

Currently standing at Rs. 122.28 crores, the Aamir Khan starrer will now see relative slowdown in weekdays, just as was the case in Week One. Still, it would aim to bring in at least Rs. 15 crores, which will take it close to the Rs. 140 crores mark. In fact, it would be a good idea for the film to avail Blockbuster Tuesday offer on Tuesday as that will give a good impetus to the overall momentum.

It’s turning out to be good times for the exhibitors. Week after week, films are bringing in audiences, and that too rather consistently. Agreed that in the last so many months we haven’t seen a blockbuster of the proportion of the likes of Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan and Animal, which had made 2023 so special. Still, at least those Rs. 50-100-150 crores grosses are coming in and that’s a relief as well because there was a time till a few weeks back when even this was not happening.

Thankfully, Hollywood has joined the party too, what with F1 The Movie throwing a pleasant surprise at the box office. The film first opened in excess of Rs. 5 crores on Friday and now has seen day-on-day growth at the box office, hence resulting in a weekend of around Rs. 21 crores*. Frankly, this wasn’t expected from the film because typically, in India it’s the franchise movies or superhero offerings from Hollywood that work better. However, F1 has emerged as an exception and the trending so far indicates that it will be a good commercial success.

The Brad Pitt starrer is now all set to enjoy a Rs. 50 crores lifetime at least and then more is possible as well. It has been a trend with the films coming from the West that once they settle down, then they keep playing on for long, even if they haven’t seen a blockbuster start. This can be seen in last biggie Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning as well which despite average reports has crossed Rs. 110 crores already and is still running.

It’s good to see audiences returning to theatres week after week now. Last week, it was Sitaare Zameen Par and this week it’s the turn of Maa to find an audience for itself as well. Even though the Aamir Khan starrer is leading by a distance and there is Hollywood’s F1: The Movie too which is keeping the urban audiences engaged, Kajol’s Maa is finding its own space, especially with those at the interiors giving it a thumbs up.

This was seen on Sunday as well when collections further increased to Rs. 7.24 crores. Growth from Saturday was relatively limited but that was expected too after the kind of numbers that had already come on the first couple of days. Moreover, the collections which are being accumulated at the box office are decent enough for this mid-budgeted film to sail through theatrically as well.

The film has come quite close to the Rs. 20 crores mark with its weekend collections reading Rs. 18.43 crores. At least Rs. 10 crores are set to come now over the weekdays and if somehow the numbers can stretch to Rs. 12 crores or more then that would further help the film to have a comfortable Rs. 30 crores+ Week One. So far, things are going fine for this Vishal Furia directed film and one now waits to see where does it eventually head for.

Sitaare Zameen Par is showing the kind of trending which is frankly, quite unique to itself. No film in the last with a double digit opening has seen 80%+ growth on Saturday and then 150%+ growth on Sunday when compared to Friday. However, it did that last weekend. However, even though the saying is that lightening doesn’t strike twice at the same place, it’s happening indeed for Sitaare Zameen Par. Reason being that the trending is pretty much repeating in the second weekend as well.

While Friday collections were Rs. 6.67 crores, yet again the film has seen huge growth on Saturday as Rs. 12.55 crores have come in. Though the growth is 60%+ this time around, even that’s quite huge as the numbers are still on the higher side. For a niche film like this, the collections are solid now and go on to indicate that it will keep running in theatres for a while now. In fact, even if 30%-40% growth over Saturday will come in today then not only will the film go past the Rs. 15 crores mark but also set the weekdays up for some further good numbers.

The film has now also entered the Rs. 100 Crore Club, what with the collections reading Rs. 107.68 crores. A lifetime in excess of Rs. 150 crores+ is a given now and the Aamir Khan starrer could well be aiming for a much higher number now.

After taking a start of Rs. 4.93 crores on Friday, Maa saw some growth on Saturday which has further firmed up its standing at the box office. Since the film had collected on the higher end of the predicted range, one wondered if Saturday will indeed see more than 20%-25% growth. Moreover, there was 2+1 tickets offer on Friday whereas none of that was there on Saturday, which means everything had to be organic at the box office.

The film still managed to collect well and, in fact, saw higher than expected growth as Rs. 6.26 crores came in. This is a healthy number and while today it will certainly cross Rs. 7 crores, if it somehow manages to come close to Rs. 8 crores mark, then that would put it in a healthy position. A number like that will ensure that Monday collections would be Rs. 3 crores+ which would be good to take it through.

So far, the film has netted Rs. 11.91 crores and a weekend close to Rs. 20 crores is there for the taking. This means a lifetime of Rs. 40 crores+ is now almost sorted and some sort of sustenance from the second week onwards as well can help it push towards Rs. 50 crores mark as well, which would bring in the same range as Rani Mukherji’s Mardaani franchise.

The Kajol led Maa is recording a good run at the box office in India. After opening at Rs 4.93 crore, the Ajay Devgn-produced film has collected in the range of Rs 6.75 crore to Rs 7.25 crore on Saturday, taking the two-day total collection to Rs 12.50 crore. The film is doing well in the urban markets and the mass belts are expected to come on board from Sunday.

The film is faring the best in the night shows due to the genre, and if families embrace the U/A rated horror film on Sunday, it could see another big spike in business on its third day. The first weekend of Maa will stand around the Rs 18 crore mark, which is a fantastic result for a Kajol led film.

The film has done well despite competition from Sitaare Zameen Par and Maa, and is expected to continue with a good run for the next two weeks, as the early reports from audience are positive. Without competition, the film would have got a better release, leading to at-least 10 percent better collections.

The film is a part of Shaitaan Universe, which has also boosted the prospects. The national chains have contributed around 50 percent to the total business, which is a strong ratio.

Though there were drops seen on Thursday and Friday, Sitaare Zameen Par somewhat compensated for that by holding pretty well on second Friday. While Thursday had seen Rs. 6.55 crores coming in, Friday, in fact, saw a little better numbers as Rs. 6.67 crores were accumulated at the box office.

These numbers were required to come as well since the base is now set for a good jump on Saturday. Had collections gone into that Rs. 5 crores range then maybe Saturday would have been relegated to Rs. 8-9 crores even after a jump. However, now a double digit Saturday is there for the taking and that yet again establishes the film in theatres. What’s all the more heartening is that these numbers have come when the combined collections of F1: The Movie and Maa are a little over Rs. 10 crores. Still, the Aamir Khan starrer is leading from the front.

Currently standing at Rs. 95.13 crores, the film has already entered Rs. 100 Crore Club as you read this. The film will, in fact, aim to go past the Rs. 115 crores mark by the time the second weekend is through and then its journey towards Rs. 150 crores milestone will begin. That’s a place that the film will comfortably reach and anything that comes in over and above that would be an added bonus.

Hit.

A couple of days back, it was predicted that Maa will take an opening in the range of Rs. 4-5 crores. Since it’s a horror drama, even with limited advance booking there was always going to be spot bookings which made one believe that this number was there for the taking. Moreover, the makers also announced a 2+1 ticket offer which made prospects even better for the film.

Well, this is what happened as well, what with Rs. 4.93 crores being collected at the box office on Friday. This is a decent enough number for a film which belongs entirely to the horror-drama, and not horror-comedy genre which has far more takers. Yes, Kajol’s presence did lend a star appeal to the film but then here she is carrying the film entirely on her shoulders and hence the kind of number which has come is optimal. Moreover, such are the kind of expectations from films in the last one year or so that even these numbers look respectable enough because there is at least a start, something that otherwise is not happening for at least 80% of notable films.

Reports of the film are decent as well which means this Vishal Furia directed film will have some kind of a run. A Rs. 40 crores+ lifetime number is what Maa would be aiming for at a bare minimum and if the jumps turn out to be much bigger this weekend then a higher number is on the cards as well.

The Shaitaan Universe has expanded with Maa, and the film has surprised one and all at the box office in India. According to very early estimates, the Kajol led horror film has collected in the range of Rs. 4.25 crores to Rs 4.75 crores on Friday. The film has performed better than expected and has in-fact emerged as one of the biggest openers of all time for a Kajol film.

The film has collected around Rs. 2.25 crores in the national chains, which have contributed about 50 percent to the total business. With a horror genre, the walk-ins through the day were very good, and even the mass belts posed better than usual occupancies. The numbers have come despite competition from F1 and Sitaare Zameen Par, and a better release plan could have resulted in a start of Rs. 5 crore plus in India.

Maa will be looking to show an upward trajectory in business on Saturday and Sunday, and score a weekend of Rs. 25 crores, which is a very good result for a feature film starring Kajol. Of course, the genre factor aided with the Shaitaan goodwill has pushed the business for Maa.

The best performing center, as expected was West Bengal owing to the genre and local connect.

After taking a double digit opening on Friday and then creating history over the weekend by scoring biggest ever jumps, Sitaare Zameen Par managed to stay decent to good right through the weekdays as well. While Monday and Tuesday were good, there were some drops seen on Wednesday and Thursday. They were not alarming but then also made one a bit cautious about how the second week would unfold.

Had this been an open week then there wouldn’t have been any issue at all since this is anyways a weekend film and hence huge jumps were bound to come in. However, there is a plethora of releases this weekend and that too across languages and genres. This means the Aamir Khan starrer has a task cut out for itself. First and foremost, it needs to be stable today and then battle it out to take that “greater than 50% jump” on Saturday and Sunday. If that indeed turns out to be the case, then a lifetime of over Rs. 150 crores will be there for the taking. Otherwise, it would be wait and watch.

Currently, this RS Prasanna directed film stands at Rs. 88.46 crores and it would be aiming for the second weekend of at least Rs. 25 crores. It’s not as much of a problem from screens and shows perspective but the fact that how will audiences receive other films. Maa and F1: The Movie in particular would be a major competition and that will make this week not just a playing ground for audiences to rush to theatres but also simply wonderful for exhibitors to welcome all the footfalls.

After collecting Rs. 8.50 crores and Rs. 8.60 crores on Monday and Tuesday respectively, Sitaare Zameen Par saw an expected drop on Wednesday. Thankfully, it was controlled because the film needed to be at least in that Rs. 7.50 crores range and this is what happened as Rs. 7.51 crores came in.

Today again there would be some drop but collections should be between Rs. 6.50-7 crores. However, what it needs is for tomorrow to be stable because with multiple films arriving (Maa, F1: The Movie, Kannappa and Nikita Roy), not just the screens will go through reallocation but audience attention would be divided as well due to too many choices. This means, at the very least it would need to collect around Rs. 5 crores, which would be near about 50% drop when compared to Friday (Rs. 10.70 crores). As long as that happens, a good jump can be expected all over again over the weekend. Anything lesser than that would mean that the best case scenario would be Rs. 150 crores lifetime.

For now, Sitaare Zameen Par stands at Rs. 81.91 crores and the film would be in the vicinity of Rs. 88 crores by the time the first week comes to a close. From an Aamir Khan starrer, a lot more is expected though. However, given the fact that this is a niche film and also pre-release expectations were not really high, where it will eventually land would be good enough as well.

On Monday, Sitaare Zameen Par was expected to collect in double digits, especially after a rollicking rise over the weekend. Hence when that didn’t happen, it was a surprise. The film had brought in Rs. 8.50 crores and one wondered if there would be stability from Tuesday onwards or further drops would be seen. Frankly, the film couldn’t have afforded anymore dip in collections, or at least more by 5%-10%.

Thankfully, that didn’t turn out to be the case either as the film brought in Rs. 8.60 crores more, which is pretty much on the same lines as Monday. The Aamir Khan starrer hadn’t opted for Blockbuster Tuesday offer of discounted tickets and hence similar collections mean that the footfalls too are on the same lines as Monday. What the film requires from here on is to continue to stay stable today and tomorrow as well. It would not be an easy task at all but still as long as the drop is contained in 10% range, it would be okay.

So far, the film has collected Rs. 74.40 crores in 5 days and though after the weekend trending it had seemed that entry into the Rs. 100 Crore Club in one week flat would be a cakewalk, that won’t be the case as it would need time till Saturday for that to happen. Also, while the lifetime target would now be Rs. 150 crores, anything over and above that would be an added bonus.

Aamir Khan’s latest offering, Sitaare Zameen Par, continues to win hearts and shatter expectations as it makes a stellar entry into the Top 10 Worldwide Rs. 100 Crore Grossers of 2025. With a global box office total of Rs. 105.17 crore, the emotional drama has clinched the 8th position among the year’s top-grossing Bollywood films, officially becoming the 8th film of 2025 to cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore milestone.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film has outpaced big-ticket titles like Bhool Chuk Maaf and Deva, both of which failed to reach the Rs. 100 crore mark, despite significant pre-release buzz. Sitaare Zameen Par, however, powered by Aamir Khan’s emotional gravitas and Prasanna’s sensitive storytelling, has resonated deeply with both Indian and international audiences.

The film has so far collected Rs. 65.80 crore nett in India, which translates to Rs. 78.33 crore gross, while its overseas gross stands at a solid Rs. 26.84 crore. This brings its total worldwide earnings to Rs. 105.17 crore, a commendable feat in today’s competitive theatrical landscape.

Notably, the film’s domestic performance has been bolstered by strong footfalls across metro cities, where multiplex audiences and family viewership have driven sustained interest. Overseas, regions like North America, the UAE, and Australia have contributed significantly to the film’s global tally, affirming Aamir Khan’s lasting connect with the diaspora.

While Sitaare Zameen Par doesn’t match the staggering scale of some of 2025’s box office juggernauts, its entry into the Top 10 is significant. This milestone makes Sitaare Zameen Par the first socially driven drama of 2025 to break into this elite club, which is otherwise dominated by high-budget actioners, patriotic thrillers, and big-banner sequels.

After a lukewarm phase post-Laal Singh Chaddha, Sitaare Zameen Par marks a clear return to form for Aamir Khan. The film sees him blend his star power with a script that leans into human emotion, societal reflection, and family dynamics—territory where Khan has always shined.

His collaboration with director R.S. Prasanna, known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, has brought a delicate touch to the storytelling, ensuring that the film never loses its emotional depth even as it entertains. The combination of strong content and Khan’s magnetic pull has translated into box office gold.

The success of Sitaare Zameen Par reaffirms the power of content-driven cinema in an environment that is often skewed toward spectacle and franchise appeal.

Rs. 100 cr. grossers of 2025 at the Worldwide Box Office: Chhaava – Rs. 797.34 cr. Housefull 5 – Rs. 252.94 cr. Raid 2 – Rs. 243.06 cr. Sikandar – Rs. 176.18 cr. Sky Force – Rs. 168.88 cr. Kesari Chapter 2 – Rs. 144.35 cr. Jaat – Rs. 119.24 cr. Sitaare Zameen Par – Rs. 105.17 cr.

The manner in which Sitaare Zameen Par had seen day on day surge over the weekend, it was really unreal. To almost double up from Friday to Saturday and then further jump by more than 50% on Sunday is the stuff that dreams are made of. However, this is what exactly happened and after scoring a half century from a just-about double digit opening on Friday, it made everyone in the industry stand up and notice.

After all, something like this has only happened before with films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story and one wondered if something as historic as that was in the making all over again. Frankly, it seemed like Monday will not just end up being in a double digit zone all over again but also surpass Friday collections of Rs. 10.70 crores by a distance. With news of shows being added due to heavy demand, it seemed like at least Rs. 12 crores were on the cards.

Well, that was not the case to be as the film ended up bringing Rs. 8.50 crores eventually. Now as a standalone film with a subject like this, these are decent numbers because there is as much audiences as that can come in on the first weekday. However, it was those huge and unprecedented jumps over the weekend that made expectations soar.

Nonetheless, what has to be seen now is the kind of hold that’s seen from today onwards with Rs. 65.80 crores under its belt. At the very least, it would need to be on the same lines as Monday and at worse, not go below Rs. 7 crores mark. That would ensure that the second weekend will see a rise in numbers all over again. That said, there are multiple films arriving on Friday, most notably Maa, Nikita Roy, F1 The Movie and Kannappa, which means competition would be from across languages and industries.

It’s going to be a wait and watch scenario for the Aamir Khan starrer.

There was huge growth on Saturday for Sitaare Zameen Par as Rs. 19.90 crores came in. This was on the cards as well when word of mouth spread around the film during evening and night shows. What junta says about a film is the most important factor and that’s what came into play for this Aamir Khan starrer for which the word of mouth is consistently good.

What’s heartening is the huge growth seen as from Rs. 10.70 crores on Friday, the film has now grown by over 85%. Of course, one also needs to consider the fact that this is happening from a decent number as the film has been released at over 3000+ screens which means there was huge capacity always at its disposal. Even now there is scope to grow further as the film is highly concentrated towards premium multiplexes where the moolah actually lies.

This RS Prasanna directed film currently stands at Rs. 30.60 crores and rest assured, it will have close to Rs. 55 crores weekend. From the kind of start that it had taken, this would be a very good positioning for the film. A Rs. 100 crores run would be a cakewalk for the film from here on and now it has to be seen where does it eventually land.

Aamir Khan is back in the game as his latest release Sitaare Zameen Par has seen an extraordinary jump in collections on Saturday. According to early estimates, Sitaare Zameen Par has collected Rs. 20 to Rs. 21 crores on second day, taking total collections to Rs. 30 crores.

Sitaare Zameen Par is headed to emerge a surprise success story of 2025, as the film released devoid of any expectations and is now headed to record a dream theatrical run. The jump has come all across the board, as a 100 percent spike in business is rarity in the world of cinema, more so in post covid world.

The Aamir Khan starrer will now target first weekend business of Rs. 55 crore and then aim to score a strong trend on Monday. An entry in 100 crore club is assured and one need to see how far can the film go beyond the century.

The Saturday business indicates appreciation and eyes now are on Sunday business.
